Unhappy

Movement, my consultant and other issues...

Hi girls,

I have only posted once when I introduced myself a few months back. However, I have been reading your posts.

Sorry, but this is going to be a bit long. I am so upset over so many things.

I have some concerns over my pregnancy. Seven years ago, I was told I would never have children without IVF (tubes scarred and blocked, ovaries fused to my uterus) and was put on the waiting list for it. By the time I came to the top of the list, my ex and I had broke up. I met my fiance and told him that I could never give him children and at my age, I did not think it would be a good idea. So, after almost a year together I get pregnant, much to our joy and surprise. And of course, with my history of never getting pregnant before, this pregnancy has been full of worry.

To start with, I have an under active thyroid. My former GP did not really look into controlling it even though I was pregnant, so I changed to another one. Now, I am having regular blood tests to get it under control. As of yesterday, I was told it is still under active. And I am worried how this will affect the baby.

Secondly, I have been told I have an intramural fibroid on my right side that is growing. And I have an anterior placenta. I am now 22 weeks and 4 days along.

From early in my pregnancy I could feel my baby move. And he has been an active little worm. But, since last Friday I just feel fluttering here and there, which is different from before. My fiance can feel a throb when he pushes in on certain parts of my bump, but before he could feel a very light sort of kick.

I've had 4 scans so far. My scan at 17 weeks showed it is a boy and everything was fine. I was never booked for a 12 week scan, which is why I had one at that point. My last scan (the 21 week scan) could not be completed because of the way my baby was laying and the claims of the sonographer of my high body mass index. She just zipped through the scan, did not explain a thing and my fiance and I felt very rushed. She made us wait outside while she did her report. All she said during the scan was that she had some trouble seeing the baby because of the way he was laying on his back.
Funny enough, the sonographer who did mine at 17 weeks and my very first one did not have this problem AND she was able to see the sex of the baby. So, I have another scan on Monday.

I have gained 3 stone so far, partly due to my under active thyroid. I feel terribly heavy and exhausted all the time. Luckily, my boss is fantastic and I get to work from home at least 1 day a week, which will be increased to 2x a week.

I saw my consultant yesterday. I told him I hardly feel the baby move at this point. He said that there is nothing they could do if there is something wrong with the baby since he is so small at this point. I replied that he obviously did not take my situation into account with his response and reiterated my history of infertility. But, he did not take that on board one bit. However, he felt the baby and was surprised that he could easily feel it at this stage in pregnancy. He also listened to the baby's heart beat and all was fine. I also have a doppler at home and can heart my baby's heart beating away. The first time I saw this consultant he gave me a strange look and claimed he had seen me before, which he had not. He also looked at me and said something about my weight. I reminded him I suddenly gained a lot of weight in pregnancy and my thyroid was quite under active. He said there was no reason why I could not lose a bit of weight in pregnancy.

I have yet to see my new midwife since I recently changed GP's. My first meeting is on 9 April with her. I am due to see this consultant again on 6 May and do not know what to do. I just feel as if I am being dismissed and then to just off handedly say to me there is nothing to be done for my baby at this stage without any compassion is just not on.

Lucky enough, it seems my baby is fine. All scans show he is doing well. There has been no sign of sugar, protein or anything in my blood. All blood tests came out very good and my blood pressure has been good every time. Yet, I feel worried and totally unsupported by this consultant. Does anyone have any ideas?

Everyone feels abit left in the dark during their pregnancy. I won't claim to know anything about your conditions other than your thyroid because my friend has the same thing and she put on quite alot of weight from it and it has made her extremely drepressed at times. I think if your babies heartbeat is fine, you're not bleeding or cramping serverely and the woman doing the scan didn't say anything was wrong (un-clear or clear) then you should try and stay positive.

Good luck with everything. Have fun at your scan. I hope (and think) your baby is fine. Try not to worry unless they tell you to (impossible I know).

I am trying not to worry. I can deal with the weight gain because I know I will lost it once the baby is born. Besides, that is a small price to pay for my little boy!

I guess it is because I never believed I would have children that now it is here I am worried it will be snatched away from me. And my fiance is no better than I am in the worrying!!! But, yes, I do feel like I am in the dark with this.

And you are right. I have not been told there is anything to worry about. In fact, everything seems to be progressing just fine. Thanks.

From the sounds of it your pregnancy is progressing nicely. All of us worry that something will happen to our LOs. In your case I can only imagine how much worse it is since you were told that you could never have children. Try to keep your head up though, you have made it this far!!

Hello!

I am due for another scan on Monday. I will put them up here on Monday so we can compare. That is a great idea of yours, to do this.

You are right. I am a bag of nerves and my fiance is not much better. He lost his dad last year and then his grandmother the day before Valentines Day. I guess everything has been getting to us and the worries of something else going wrong.

I had my scan today and I am being booked for another in 2 weeks!!! The reason is my son decided to lay on his back again. So, his spine and kidneys could not be measured. He was also checked for a harelip, but it was fine. And he is continuing his love affair with my ribs!!! Everything else was measured and came out normal.

Here are the measurements. Can you tell me what they mean???

BPD: 59.3mm
FL: 36.7mm
HC: 207.9mm
AC: 171.8mm

And he weighs 468 grams.
