Earliest you can get a GENDER SCAN

My wife had an ultrasound at 11w 6d for down syndrome check. That scan went well. The technician told us "I have and idea what your baby's sex might be, but lets wait a bit to be sure." Now I am going crazy and cant wait. I think it may be a boy because, by my logic, it would be easier to tell if its a boy at 11 weeks that if it were a girl, but that may be my wishful thinking.

So, we have another appt at 17 weeks for a second round of bloodowork, and a gender scan at 20 weeks. I am thinking, maybe we can ask for a gender scan at 17 weeks, but I wonder if 17 weeks is too early to tell.

What say you all?

Too early. The girl parts stick out at that point too. I would never trust a scan earlier than 16 weeks.

i think u can tell earlier but most docs dont want to say just incase theres a small chance they get it wrong. i think they wait til a certain date so there is no mistaking the outcome

Guess we'll have to wait until Feb. But i heard girl parts really dont stick out like boy parts, which is why its easier to tell early on.

We found out at 16 weeks we are having a girl. So they should be able to see at 17 weeks if the baby is in a good position x

At 11 weeks both girl parts and boy parts stick out and look exactly alike! There is supposed to be a way to tell at that point by seeing the angle that the nub points but it's not really proven to be correct and it's really hard to get right because the difference in angle is so slight.

17 weeks would be late enough to find out though so you may be able to tell then!
