what should i expect?

what should i expect when i have my 21 week (anomaly)scan?

how long will the scan last for?

do they look at every detail on baby or is it just a quick, roughly done scan?
should i state that i dont want to know the sex?
(ive been having dreams that i have my scan and the woman says'oh yes your having a boy')

oh and pictures, can i have more than one (different) picture or will they only give me as many as i want but in the same picture.

* if you read my post about the hospital not having me on their computer system.
i had to call them back to see if they had booked me in for a scan and the woman said you have been booked in but they didnt call back as they have sent a letter through.

but its now thursday and i have my scan on tuesday and i still havnt got a latter through to say when my scan will be(even though i know it coz i called them back)
but im guessing that i wont get a leeter now as its easter weekend and there wont be any post friday, saturday or monday.
so it was a good job i called them back.

my scan lasted about 20 minutes, they looked at all the details and estimated measurements, so you know how much baby is estimated to weigh etc, And they plotted it against the averages to make sure the baby is big enough and growing properly.

You definately need to tell them as soon as you get in there that you do not want to know the sex of the bubba, and make sure you ask them for photos, i wasn't given any and left without realising. So make sure you have some in your hand before you leave, some places ask for a small contribution of money for them, but every hospital varies.

Goodluck hun, scans are so exciting. And hospitals are stupid, i had to wait 3 hours to be seen last time and didn't even get an apology, its a good job you rang up to check or would have missed it. xx

when i had my 12 week scan i wasnt in there long from the time i went in for my scan and got out of it and back to the car in the car park it was 15 mins,so it was a quicky.

yes ill make sure i say i dont want to know the sex and ill defenetly make sure ive got a pic in my hand before i walk out.
yes the hospital charges £4 per photo so quite abit, but i cannot have a pic of my baby.

oh and ive realised that last time i had a scan i needed to take the apointment letter with me to prove that i guess it was me. but i havnt got a letter this time, will that be a problem?

yes its definatley worth every penny for the photos of our babies. You will be given lots of different ones depending on how many you ask for, usually a head photo and one of the legs is nice.

No it won't be a problem that you don't have a letter because its the hospitals fault they didn't send it to you on time. Just take your driving license so you can prove who you are if needs be. I don't think you could pretend to be pregnant anyway. they'll know who you are as soon as they scan your tummy. xx

My scan lasted 20-30 minutes. They looked over every detail of the anatomy first and than showed me different parts of the body. She asked me if we wanted to know the baby's sex and we told her yes.

My scan lasted around 20 minutes and she checked everything with baby and explained to me what she was looking at as she done it.

She had already asked me before the scan started if I wanted to know the sex because I had to sign a disclaimer thing but just make sure you tell them you don't want to know.

I got 3 different pics of my baby for £5

The hospital never needed my letter and I had my maternity notes so they knew it was me.

This scan was alot better than my dating one which seemed to last 2 mins
