20 week scan???

This questions may sound a bit odd but have been wondering so might as well ask.
When you go for your scan do you just have the scan or do you have to see midwife as well.?
How long does the scan take? and does the sonographer explain about the baby throughout?
Also is it common to have problems detected at these scans or is it that the majority of cases the baby is absolutely fine.?
Sorry just a few things i'm unsure on.

Well my 20 week scan was probably 20-30 minutes long. The tech looked over everything at first, and than went back over and explained what different body parts etc. were (although for the most part it was pretty easy to tell). She also checked the sex of the baby (several times for me). I had scheduled an OB appointment directly afterwards, mostly because I wanted to get it done in one day. I believe that in the majority of the cases everything is absolutely fine, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about

When I went for my scan it lasted about 20 mins the lady explained what she was looking at/for throughout the scan & pointed out heart faces toes e.t.c after the scan I had a 5 minute chat with a MW about my blood results (mine were all normal) and she asked me if I had any questions.

The 20 weeks scan is to check for abnormalities (sp) and if there are any they will be detected.

Hope this helps you a bit.

i had the scan which took about 25 mins. The scanner person (sorry for the technical langauge!) just did her stuff - measuring and occasionally pointing out body parts. Then her big boss came in and approved that the rsults were right. Then afterwards did another 5 for me, pointing out bits and pieces and taking photos when baby was in a good position. She confirmed the sex. She indicated that things looked just perfect. She didnt go into detail, but sent the results to my doc.

I then had an appointment with my obst (I dont see a MW, it's just the way it is here) who told me the results were fine. He didnt really go through all the mesurements with me but I expect he would if I asked.
