Flying

I really wanted me & hubby to have a little holiday before the baby arrives.
But due to him falling ill & taking time off work & not asking for the time off, its looks like having the ideal week is not going to happen!!

We can go for a long weekend now which will have to do..
I am 5 months today & I know ur not supposed to/allowed to fly after 6 months but I'm wondering how close to 6 months I could/should leave it??

We have alot of family functions in the next few weeks which means realistically we can either go 29th/30th March(which is quite last min too plan now) or 12/13th April (too close to 6 months mark?) or 19th/20th April which will mean I'm 6months and 4 days...

What to do??

Personally I would go the 12/13th of April. My OB told me that the only reason not to fly in the third trimester is because if you do happen to go into labor they want you to be close to your doctors/hospital.

depends how long a flight you're talking. If it's just an horu or two I wouldnt worry.

Each airline has its own rules - check their websites.
I think BA allow you to fly the latest in the UK - up to week 36 for single-babies. I looked this up as I live away from my family and wanted to know when would be the latest I could visit them. from BA:
Pregnancy
For uncomplicated single pregnancies, we restrict travel beyond the end of the 36th week, and for twins, triplets etc., beyond the end of the 32nd week. After your pregnancy has entered its 28th week, we ask that you carry with you a letter from your doctor or midwife, stating the pregnancy is uncomplicated and confirming the expected date of delivery. In this letter, your doctor should state that you are in good health, that they are happy for you to fly, and that (in their opinion) there is no reason why you cannot fly.

I'd personally not fly during the last 6 weeks, but thats me - I panic about things happening mid air!
I too fancy a little break pre baby arrival...Am wondering about around week 32 or 33 but it's just an idea right now.

Thanks for your input girls!!
Well thats the other thing Im unsure of where to go for a weekend now.
Initially when we were going for a week I was thinking New York or Thailand..
But for weekend it'll have to be europe somewhere.. maybe south of france, italy?

Any suggestions?

Hi Angelica.
Venice and Rome are absolutely amazing, has great weekend deals and only a 2 hour flight.
How about Paris, also very nice.
I went to the South of France last year, to the Dordogne, it was quiet, but beautiful.
I think I'll be doing a long weekend somewhere as well

Hi im gate crashing 2nd tri.... not due here for another week!
Anyway it really depends on which airline you travel with some will let you fly upto 36 weeks and others will only let you fly upto 28 weeks, ive had a similar problem as you and had to cancel my holiday to the bahamas! i was gutted! Alot of airlines also suggest you get a letter from your g.p to say you are fit to fly at that point in your pregnancy, i think its just for insurance reasons!! Good luck and have a great holidays wherever you go! Becki xx

I also have a flight booked when I am 27/28 weeks which the airlines have said is fine to fly, but do you know if there is any research as to whether there is any negative effect on the baby? My mum said she read something somewhere saying that pregnant women should be careful but we can't find it anywhere now!

Thankyou
