I have never heard of it before, but I searched antepartum depression and viola there it was. Apparently it is very common, but most women don't tell their doctors about it. The article also said that if antepartum depression is treated you are more likely to ward off postpartum depression.

So, I would tell my doctor and see what they suggest. Good luck!

I am signed off work with antenatal depression and GP has been great and so understanding. I work in the mental health field and have no doubt the condition exists. It is a very difficult one as everyone assumes that we should be hormonal so it gets lumped into that, but I know that up until the last week (when I have started to feel slightly more myself again) that this is not the normal pregnancy experience. There is a lot of stuff on the internet about it but there is nothing in the pregnancy books I have at all. Think that is awful and gives us pregnant women who are feeling depressed the wrong signal that this is not something that can happen. According to the internet around 10% of pregnant women experience it and some say it is more common that post natal depression.

Hope you are doing ok. I have started feeling more myself this week so hopefully it will pass for you too.

One of my pregnancy magazines has an article on it.
Quite a scary thought really. I'll watch out for the warning signs. It can't be fun.

Because Ive got a history of depression my midwife explained to me that its very possible I could get it, and also post natal depression. She said if I wanted to I could see a pregnancy councellor at the hospital and there are drugs for it if it's really bad. At the moment, I feel ok. Up and down a bit, but I can't tell whether thats extra hormones or depression, but I am dealing ok.

If you don't think you are, please see your MW or doctor and have a word with them. I'm sure they can sort something out for you

Hope you feel better hun

I'm sure depression can hit at any time. I hope no one would judge you for it on this site. Please speak to your midwife or gp. I have never had depression, but my sil has at numerous times in her life and i know how all consuming it was for her.
