My bladder was TOO full for my 12 week scan so I had to empty it a little. The midwife then said to me "it's a good job you don't have to fill it for your next one!"

On my appointment letter it says "it is not neccessary to have a full bladder for this scan"

I guess everywhere is different. I'm just thanking my lucky stars - it was the most uncomfortable experience. Although I did get the odd smart arsed comment about- if you think that's bad, wait for labour...

BrightEyes: I know that feeling and I was at the hospital hours because my LO would not stop moving so I was sent for walk to get the LO to change place to get the neck measurements. I swear that I nearly pee-ed myself!

I don't know the answer but have wondered the same thing and am asking my MW at my appointment tomorrow.

I think it depends on where you are having it done. On my letter for my 12 week scan it said in capital letters that I do not need to have a full bladder. On the letter for my 20 week scan it says that I should not have an empty bladder.

Good luck with your scan x

Only if they want to see your 'cervix' clear......mine was not full and I had asked if it mattered and they said only to get a good pic of the cervix~

I read somewhere that they might ask you to empty your bladder part way through to see how the baby's heart rate responds.

I had to call to book my appointment (long story) anyway, I was told I didn't need an full bladder for the 20 week scan... Give them a call if you're not sure
