Anyone who has had a vbac after a c-section??

Hi Ladies

I wondered if there was anyone on here who has had a vbac after having had a c-sec previously.

I am really wanting to have a vbac this time but the risk of the scar spliting scares me a little.

I know plenty of women do and it all goes fine but then i know there are some where is doesnt which plays on my mind. Just wandered if there was anyone out there who has gone through it.

Hi Kpt,

I haven't had a VBAC but I'm a doula and I've been with several women at their VBACs. Most recently was this weekend just gone, a baby boy born vaginally on Sunday, five years after his older sister was born by section.

The chance of your scar rupturing is very low and you can easily monitor for signs of it during labour. If a scar is rupturing or about to rupture the mother's heart rate will increase, she will bleed more and she will usually feel a lot of pain specifically at the scar site - unlike contraction/labour pain which will be elsewhere/all over the bump. Your midwife will monitor your heart rate and blood loss and regularly ask you about any scar pain. If you have none of these symptoms then your labour is no more risky than a none VBAC one.

The other thing that increases your risk of a scar rupture is to be induced or put on a syntocin/pitocin drip to speed up your labour. This causes the uterus to work harder than it would be doing naturally which stresses the scar, so that's one thing to avoid.

A few good resources are:

Good luck!
