I'm Currently Feeling: | 18 month shot Hey, I was just wondering who is going to give their lovely sons and/or daughters their 18 month shot? Apparently there's a direct link between Otism and the 18 month shot
I heard LOTS of people that said their child's Otism wasn't brought out until he/she had their 18 months shots.. and also that it can cause other problems. Who is going to give their babys it ? | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | There has never been a proven link between autism and the MMR jab. It's coincidental and unfirtuante that Autism does tend to first show symptoms at around the same time as the first MMR jab. Both of my children have had theirs. It actually makes me a bit cross that people are putting their children at risk of some serious, sometimes fatal, illnesses. I know it's personal opinion. Measles was very nearly irradicated until all of the hype surrounding MMR, and now there are so may cases of Measle and Mumps ( a threatened epidemic), directly because of parents choosing not to vaccinate their children. Just my opinion |

I'm Currently Feeling: | If it does concern you however, I think you can get the MMR as 3 seperate injections... not sure how, or even if they're licensed yet, you'd have to ask the docs. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | i have never listened to this as they have bought out a new report saying it actaully isnt linked. I had my daughter done aswell. MMR is recurring up again cos where children havent been vaccinated, id rather have my daughter protected then have an illness possibly take her away. But its all personal opioion and always up to the mother . |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Nathan had his MMR injection and this baby will have it aswell
I thought for a while about it before letting Nathan having it and decided to let him have it because there is no proven link between the MMR and autism and I don't want to put him at risk of catching measels, mumps or rubella |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I opted to have the shots given as three separate jabs. Mean making my kids get stuck 3 times? Maybe but I'd rather play safe than sorry on both the autism risk and the disease risk.
I had to be a bit pushy to get it that way but there's quite a few now have them separate.
When I was a kid the jabs were given separate, on separate occassions (my mum's a pack rat when it comes to keeping stuff like baby records). |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I would definitely have my LO get all the required vaccinations. The studies alleging a link between autism and the MMR jabs are not robust and in fact nearly all stem from just one particular study which has been somewhat controversial to say the least in terms of how it was set up and how the results were subsequently interpreted.
The symptoms do begin to become apparent around 18mths but the trials undertaken so far have not proven definitively that the link is to anything other than the child's age. The risk of measles in particular is becoming a very real one due to fewer children being vacinated. This can be a very serious illness and I would not put my child at risk of contracting it. Just my own opinion. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | there is no proven evidence to state that autism is caused by the MMR. The rumours started as autism is usually discovered around this time - people like to put two and two together and get 5. Personally I think its more dangerous not to have the MMR as the risks associated with these illnesses are massive

| As said, there is no evidence to back MMR causing Autism. I weighed up the risks anyway and decided it was better for me to get her the MMR jab. |
