| When does placenta move? Hi all, I was told at my 20 wk scan that I had a low lying placenta and that if it doesnt move back up out of the way then I will have to have a c section They said most of them move as your uterus grows but I was wondering if any of you knew at about how many weeks it was when it could happen also cos I want to feels my little girls kicks stonger and see her feet etc sticking out from my stomach. they are going to re-scan me at 36 wks to find out if it has moved. | | | | Status: Offline

| I was told at 20 week scan that I have a low placenta too - they explained that as everything else grows your placent tends to stretch (and grow) from the top - so basically it will pull further away from the bottom... hope that makes sense..
I am being re scanned at 30ish weeks to check so am assuming if it happens it will be at some point before then.. x | | | | Status: Offline

| This is purely anacdotal and mine wasn't low lying but it is anterior and to the right so I didn't ever feel any movement on that side until last week. I have started to feel kicks on the right low down.
I dont think It is that the placenta moved juts that the uterus had grown upwards, the placenta is attached to wherever it is going to be attached to but the distance betweeen your cervix and placenta can grow. | | | | Status: Offline

| I just got told the same thing this morning...from my 19 week scan. I was told no sex, no lifting, and to take it easy. I will be rescanned at 30 weeks to see if it has moved....if not....c-section....doc scared me a little tbh. But also said there is a good chance it can move up. | | | | Status: Offline

| The lower segment of the uterus usually forms from approx 32 weeks which is why my unit re-scans then. So it would be expected to see a rise in the placenta position at this time. | | | | Status: Offline

xxx | Thanks, and you're 26wks I have just noticed as well so hopefully mine will be the same in a couple of weeks. If I start to feel Amelia's kicks stronger then hopefully it has, I dont fancy having a c section. | | | | Status: Offline

| Think they will last scan you at 36 weeks, which is plaenty of time for it grow up out of the way, and most do | | | | Status: Offline

| I was told at my 20 week scan it was low lying too. It needs to be a minimum of 5cm away from the cervix for a natural birth. My scan at 26 weeks showed it was only 1.1cm away from my cervix so no move yet. I will be rescanned at 33+5 to see it's position. Mine is also anterior and she said low lying anterior are less likely to move.
I was also told no sex and take it easy too. Sex can increase the risk of placental abrubtion if it is low lying. | | | | Status: Offline
