Hi Shocklee,

Sorry to hear you are not well.

I had a bout of bronchitis a couple of weeks ago and my doctor advised that they would prefer I avoid all medication but I that I could take paracetamol (2 tablets at least 4 hours apart with a max of 4 doses per day). He said I should avoid anything else but if my temperature went to 38.5 or above and my phelgm became green (mine was fluorescent yellow (sorry if TMI) to come back and they could prescribe me some penicillin to try and get me back on track. He did also suggest a homemade hot honey and lemon or hot blackcurrant cordial with honey to sooth the cough.

Anyway - that is the advice I was given by my doctor. I had been taking a cold and flu remedy before I saw him and he was not keen on the baby being exposed to the decongestant and other ingredients hence the "paracetamol only" rule.

I hope you get better soon honey

Hi honey, sorry to hear you arent well. I dont want to freak you out but you should probably stop taking the meds you are taking as decongestant ingredients arent advisable in pregnancy. Your baby isnt ill just because you are, but you need to see a doctor asap so you can get started on safe medications. Try hot water with lots of honey and lemon and only take paracetamol. Most of those medications you buy for flu and colds say on the pack not to take while pregnant and it really isnt just over cautiousness, they can be dangerous. Good Luck at the doctors! xx

Benedryl is fine during pregnancy. Not sure about Sudafed.

I would try to get to the doc tomorrow if you can though - you are going to need an antibiotic if its a bacterial infection... Bronchitis is awful. Sorry you feel like such crap. Get well soon!

This. I had to take some Benadryl this past week, so I looked it up and it's ok, but I don't know about Sudafed. You could try looking it up and I hope you feel better soon.

Both of those are on my list of OK things to take that the doctor gave me! I actually take benedryl all the time for my allergies so I know that one is fine. Sudafed would only be a problem if your blood pressure is high. Otherwise you're fine. Be forewarned, sudafed can hype you up a lot so don't freak out if your heart races a bit after taking it.
