eeekk-think husband has swine flu...bit scared now

my husband has a temp of 38.2, sore throat and headache and achy. went on google, ended up on nhs direct website, did a test and he has been assseessed for swine flu. now i have to say the assessment asked about symptms that were also shown on the page with symptoms for normal flu. so i dont quite know what made this swine flu!!! but at the same time....am a bit concerned for myself and the bubs. cant decide what to do!!!will see in the morn what his temperature is.....and if i should go pick up the antivirals for him as suggested on the national pandemic website wher he was 'diagnosed'!!! i dont quite belileve they can make this diagnosis, esp when the symptoms are exac the same as the normal flu diagnosis on nhs direct! am i going to be at high risk now too??? havent had the jab as i dont quite trust that either!!

Only thing you can do it sit and wait and if you do become ill just take paracetamol and increase your fluids.
I hope you havnt got it and if you have it doesnt last long

It could just be normal flu hun, its that time of year where people gonna start to come down with it. Just make sure you keep your fluids up, drink some orange juice too if you can for vitamin c, if you do get it take paracetamol too. Hope your both ok, i would call a dr and speak with them if you can, see how oh is this morning and go from there.

Be careful honey and tried to keep away from him and don't share a bed with him. Swine flu and seasonal flu are equally dangerous for pregnant women so you need to take good care of yourself.

Thanks.went and got him tamiflu from chemist who said that i should take the other drug...cant remember the name!just to be sure!however, husband isnt taking the tami as we dont think he has it.he can get out of bed,but his temp just goes up again when his beechams wears off.i feel ok,am staying in spare room tonight again, and not going to take the swine flu drug as if i take it now i wont be able to have it again and we dont feel he has swine flu.but its still worrying!surely its too late to stay that far away from him now!obviously i am not going to cuddle him but still,am sure i will have got his germs!just hope i fight them!its a worry!

Just wanted to reassure you, my husband and myself both had swineflu when i was in 1st tri. I couldn't take antivirals as the "pregnancy safe" ones are not suitable for asthmatics, and hubbie didn't take any either, we both had a high fever for 3 days, which went after that and left us with annoying coughs for about 10 days. I ended up being swabbed, as flu always sets off my asthma, so i had some hospital treatment for that rather than the virus itself. It was confirmed as swineflu. It was alot less severe and with a shorter duration than any seasonal flu i've ever had, and treatment with paracetamol and lots of fluids seemed to do the trick, for us at least.

The main reason this strain of flu has so much publicity is because its unusually infectious, not because it's unusually severe (except in very rare cases) and the fatality rate is proportionately low when compared to fatalities from seasonal flu.

I just wanted to reassure that there really isn't increased danger from swine flu than seasonal flu, that said, neither is fun and i hope you manage to avoid it and that the hubbie gets well soon. x

aww thanks hun, yeah i do believe that itsnot as severe as being made out, but then the media hype does make you worry more than normal!! am glad you recovered well. his temp has gone back down again, was 38.5 this afteroon, is now 37.8 cos the beechams powder takes it down, its just when it wears off that he feels yuk again. prob is we are supposed to be on a flight to belfast tomo for a wedding....not sure thats gonna happen now! i amfeeling ok, just have a headache but thats prob cos i didnt sleep last night due to hb coughing and me worrying and being in the spare room!!!

i just had swine flu and so did my children ( ages 5, 2, and 8 months) and my hubby! it didnt really last that long and as long as you take care of yourself it is just like any other flu...we didnt take any anti-virals. but if you have asthma or heart or lung desease then you should definately see the Dr.
