Leeds General Infirmary

Has anyone given birth at LGI? Because that's where I'm planned to give birth and I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience to share with me.
I'm new to Leeds so I haven't even been there for any other reason (apart from scans).

Parking is ridiculous there isn't it? We always end up walking even though we live about 3 miles out. We're gonna get a taxi when I go into labour, because it's cheaper than paying for parking. And then my OH's mum will drive us home. Thanks for the site.

I had my son there Id only lived here like 10 months myself when I gave birth so I was totally nervous about going there because I was used to a hospital in newcastle so it was a bit scary if that makes sense.

I thought it was fantastic, I wouldn't have done it anywhere else. The midwifes were lovely (bar one but I got her back - my foot only missed her face by an inch ), they didn't send me home despite being in very early labour, not dilating or effacing, and his head wasn't engeged either. But they kept me in and helped me with the pain.

The whole time I was giving birth I was told exactly what was going on, how well I was doing and they were very encouraging.

After the birth they honoured everything I wanted - wanted hubby to hold Seth first, wanted to be out of the room when he was getting his jabs, they let me have a bath (best bath I ever had in my life) and brought me a cup of tea & toast, I asked to be sent home asap which they also honoured, was out in about 6 hours. We also got a private room because there was one available which was lovely.

Umm... only negatives were my mobile got taken in there (probably a lot of my own fault but still), even though we were in a private room we were only allowed visitors 2 at a time and Ive heard bad things about the ward if you stay overnight.

I had the best birth experience and 99% of that was down to the hospitals facilities and staff

x

i am booked in for st james which i chose over the lgi because i have heard good things about st james and not much about lgi, although my best mate heard unfavourables before having her two. however if i want a water birth, and i'm considering it, then i would have to go to the lgi. and it's closer to my house, so i am thinking of switching. would be much cheaper to get a taxi there too... although parking at st james's is far far easier if we did have to drive...
