Swine flu vaccine in UK - new version for pregnant women?

Hi there, has anyone else heard anything about a different version of the vaccine being made available for pregnant women? It was on the 9pm Channel 5 news on Monday, but i haven't heard anything else on any other news and can't find any other information about it.

Just wondered if anyone else has heard anything.

Thanks.

This was just before Flash Foward started wasnt it?

I saw the brief report but just took it to mean that it was the Celvapan, not Pandemrix (excuse my spelling) that was being made more readily available to pregnant women. I think some women have been offered Pandemrix only which concerns a lot of women due to a certain ingredient.

Yes that was it. I haven't seen anything else about it though so wonder if its true. I would feel better to have that version I think.

celvapan

To get it you need to call up your PCT directly (you can get the number on the internet).....only problem is, its in quite short supply so there may be a wait. In Surrey i was told that it would take at least 2 weeks to get the new batch in, and even then I wasn't guaranteed to be first in line. when i factored in the 6 weeks it takes to get full immunity, I started to have second thoughts as this would take me into the new year!! Hopefully it is not so bad in other areas!

I called my doctors surgery last night and they had no idea what I was talking about, said their only directive was to administer Pandemrix to pregnant women. I said I'd wait. Good to see they are communicating properly!

Yes my doctors were shite - said they had no idea when it came in and just said it must have been an error when my husband got offered the injection before me!!! He has no underlying medical conditions and definately is not pregnant! All seems a shambles to me.

Not swine flu related but as for gp offices being shite... I turned in a urine sample at reception because it was suspected I had a UTI and was given a red top bottle to take home and retirn. 2 weeks later I went in for a mw appointment I had to make myself because my one 2 weeks earlier was awful and I asked for my result and that I hadn't heard anything. The mw told me to ask the receptionist and when I did she said they had NO record of it at all! I was furious and I said to my husband that if it would have been a UTI and it was left untreated I could have had kidney/bladder infections!

Damned Doctors offices!

Oh thanks for the comments ladies, and especially for that link from skynews. Have to say though (call me cynical!), I think there will be a general lack of communication on this matter, its not been broadcast very widely has it. I bet my GP surgery will know nothing about it....oh what to do, what to do...
