midwife checking heartbeat

well i had my scan at 10+5 and they only had one baby fine, but then when i went for my 16 week checkup on thurs she picked up to heartbeats and asked me was i sure there was only one, does anyone know what the chances are that there is 2? i really hope not but i can't stop worrying now lol.

Get a second opinion. Although I doubt they wouldn't have been able to pick up the twin on scan at almost 11 weeks. Maybe your mw is new to the profession?

I would ask for another scan to confirm you're only having one baby. I would have thought your midwife would have arranged that after picking up two heartbeats! xx

i thought that, but then when she said that it was like ok she said maybe it had followed her and i was like ok but now i'm thinking what if lol. she been there years as i know other with children that have seen her and some were bout 3 yrs ago. i'm sure i'm just worrying myself lol.

Well, you'll get another scan down the road if you had one so early on. Probably around 20 weeks for growth. A scan should have picked it up. She was probably hearing the placenta, which can be mistaken for the heartbeat. If she was using a doppler, then she probably heard 3 heartbeats, yours, the baby's, and the placenta.

Apparently, sometimes the doppler can pick up the sound of the placenta pumping, which sounds a lot like a heartbeat. Other times the doppler can pick up the mum's heartbeat too.

I would try and arrange another scan just to make sure whether there is one baby or two.
