Mini-Rant

Normally I'm not one to get really upset/angry over things but I did get mad over this. As you all know we found out on Wednesday that we are having a little girl I called my mom immediately of course to let her know and than gave her permission to tell the rest of the family. She called one of my nieces (I have several nieces and nephews that are very close to my age) who is younger than me, but has been married a year longer than Stan and I, to tell her the news. Her response was "Well the family needs more boys." WTF?!?! I understand that my niece wants children of her own (but her husband does not at this point--for a lot of reasons I won't get into on here) and is jealous of my pregnancy. But why can't she still be happy for me?!? All that really matters is that I'm having a healthy baby, whether it be a boy or a girl!!

Rant over! I feel better now.

That is rather selfish of her. Even if she's jealous she could say something nice. Maybe she didn't mean it in a nasty way though and was just hopeful it would be a boy.

Hey Vickie you deserve to have a rant about that nasty comment...It's none of her business what you are having and she should be pleased for you regardless as long as its healthy!!

Thanks girls, it's just hard because she's (and her mother--my sister) have both said some pretty harsh things since I've become pregnant. I know they are both jealous and disappointed that it's not my niece who is pregnant, but I can't do anything about that situation and I certainly can't put my life on hold over it. Oh well we've got lots of other family members who are thrilled with my pregnancy!!

I wouldn't pay too much attention to that nasty comment. Obviously she is jealous or was just hoping for a boy. Either way, you should be proud that you are having a little girl (congrats on your pink bump, but the way). I know how families can be. My husband's side of the family was really hoping that we would have a girl cause there are tons of boys and my family needs a boy cause we have all girls. Either way, some one is always disappointed, but once they meet the new addition to the famiy, the sex doesn't even matter. Enjoy your little girl (you get to buy all the cute stuff ). Don't let others bring you down like that, this is the time you and your OH should be in the lime light and enjoying one another and this beautiful experience.

Justified rant me thinks; she is probably really sad though if she really wants a baby which we can all understand, some people find it harder to be gracious than others, she may come round...

You're right, she will come around, I know that she will. And I do truly understand where she is coming from, wanting a baby and having her husband against the idea (he was diagnosed with colon cancer a few years ago and with all the treatments and such no one is even sure if they can have children naturally). I really do understand her position, it just makes me sad that they can't be happy for me.

I'm very sorry that that kind of comment was made!

Ah, Jealousy! I suppose if one were in her shoes it would be tough to hear the news.

But, why can't people just reserve the negative comments to themselves? I would never dream of parading on someone's happiness and make such negative comments.

i can understand what you mean, a cousin on my OHs side said to me quite horribly "yours better not be a girl... i want to be the first in this family to have a girl." shes on cookoo land... shes not even trying for a baby. who gives a fuck anyway a baby is a baby as long as its healthy.
