| I did something really utterly STUPID! I have been worried about the length of my cervix for some time now.
So I decided, in all rush, to try to feel how long it was by myself.
So I took one of those doctor's gloves on my right hand.
Sat my butt down the toilet (as it presses the cervix more down, easier to feel) and had the glove on my hand and felt the cervix several times as i wanted to be sure how many centimeters i estimated.
Now I am regretting I ever did this and am concerned about the impacts it may have on the cervix.
Do you think it'll be alright?
At least I used gloves.
But I must of made some harm by feeling it up and down so many times and touching it, surely.
I felt the "hole" of the cervix two times, so at least I didnt do too much touching there.
I am scared of telling my midwife this, what will she think of me if I put my baby in harm by doing this?
I just felt and I knew my gyn wouldnt check the length of my cervix. | | | | Status: Offline

| I don't really think it's stupid, I've checked a couple of times myself and there's a thread about checking your own cervix in the third tri section. TMI but my OH's fingers go in there all the time, so I don't see the harm in me checking if I make sure to wash my hands first etc. Surely my bacteria must be less harmful to my own body than my OH's | | | | Status: Offline

| Thank you, I just couldnt stop myself from doing it but now afterwards I regret it so much.
I dont know if I should tell my midwife this, I feel like a total moron to have had done this!
What if i irritate the cervix now and something happens or if I get a terrible infection?
I read all sort of terrible things on google when i tried to google it. | | | | Status: Offline

| You probably haven't done any harm, but it probably isn't something you should do regularly iykwim? Risk of bacteria or damaging something.
I'm not sure how you'd know how long or short your cervix is anyway just by feeling but that's probably just because I never have! | | | | Status: Offline

| I would have to say that if we are fine to have sex during pregnancy, I seriously doubt you could have done yourself any damage, especially with a hygenic glove.
I have certainly checked the same areas myself (I believe in staying familiar with my own body so that i can be aware of any changes i have that might need checking out by a doctor) and its never done any damage to me. Just make sure you wash your hands well before and after.
If its worrying you in any way then tell your midwife about it, I'm sure she will have heard it all before in her time and can reassure you | | | | Status: Offline

| Do you think I can tell my midwife without been seen as a lunie?
I am so ashamed of this.
I am just scared as I have been told by another gyn a few years ago that my cervix is very short.
And I instinctively know this gyn I have now wont do a cervix check.
In fact I am quite sure most gyns in this country wouldnt do a cervix check unless you lost a baby or two before in second trimester:/
I am just feeling like I dont want to risk anything. Why should a woman have to go thru hell before she gets help?
I rather get the examination before so I know I dont have to worry about that, but as usual you cant force medical people to do anything so I suppose I will have to try to relax and hope for the best:/
And I hope my cervix will be alright, gosh I feel so guilty, what if anything happens because of my stupidity! | | | | Status: Offline
