I'm sure it will be fine.
The only thing you can assess with your finger is any cervical opening or dilalation. The length of the cervix is measured from where the cervix starts at the top of the vagina and when it ends at the bottom of the uterus. You're basically trying to measure a closed tunnel - which you can only do by ultrasound, unless you are already dilated - which you aren't.

If they have any issues it can easily get measured at your 12 or 20 week scan. Then they'll either monitor it more frequently or offer you a cervical stitch to keep it closed under the mounting pressure of a growing baby!

Just tell the midwife your concerns - she'll have heard more bizarre stories than that - and you were uber careful about possible infection too - so no harm should be done.

Good luck

I don't see how this would harm the baby in any way. Your baby is a lot higher than your cervix, and surrounded in fluid so even if you were to prod, it wouldn't feel it.

Why have you been worried about your cervix anyway? Am I missing something, because I've never been told anything about my cervix

here here

at your 20 week scan ask them to check as you have been told its short, its no trouble for them to have a quick look it takes mins, all they need is the internal probe on the scanner, metion it before the scan starts as not all rooms have a probe on the machines and last time i had to move rooms before we could check

Im sure that it cannnot do any harm..if it were harmful..no one would have sex when pregnant (although sometimes you are told not to for medical reasons)..when they examined you and told you that your cervix was short..they would have poked around a lot more! your baby is well protected by a thick plug of mucous which acts as a pretty good barrier to infections

Probably best not to do it again though as you will end up driving yourself bonkers

Hi

I don't think it's sill but why on earth would you want to feel it / check it??

I say just leave it to the professionals since they are midwifes and we are not.

I'm not a medic but I hope you haven't done any damage. I would run it past your midwife to be on the safe side and from here on, leave alon

Nicola xx
