Can I demand to get my cervix checked for incompetent cervix?

Do any of you ladies know if I can DEMAND to get my cervix checked by my gyn?
If she refuses, what can I do?
I want to know if everything is alright or not.
I just read a manual exam usually misses an incompetent cervix but an ultrasound usually sees it. I refuse to believe my gyn will do this as she has previously denied me tests when I have suffered with symptoms such as pain when peeing.

Hi,

Are you in the UK? Sadly in the UK they wont check for incompetant cervix because you request it or you have concerns (I know from asking myself after having some of my cervix removed previously due to abnormal cells and being concerned I couldn't hold a pregnancy). Only if you had a pre term loss will they monitor you (!!?????!!!) which is horrible!!!

I looked into provate options and found an organisation in Notts that scanned your cervix to note length etc, but this was only available post 24 weeks I think, which to me is a little late.

If you are outside the UK, do whatever you can to pressurise your healthcare provider to give you what you want and explain your reasons.

Good luck. xxx

Pain when peeing doesnt mean you have an incompetent cervix. It can be a number of things.

Can I ask why you are worried about this? Are you in a high risk group eg suffered a previous preterm loss, had a d&c in the past or cervical surgery of some kind?

They dont usually look into this unless they feel they need to. If they were to check us for everything in pregnancy we'd never be out of the doctors!!

It's the same in Sweden I have heard I am just so scared of losing my baby and dont want to go thru losing my baby. I cant understand how healthcare can be so ignorant!

A doctor told me a few years ago that i have a very short cervix.
And now seeing they have taken tests for about everything painful peeing gives.... it makes me worry more about an incompetent cervix but i suppose ill have to try to calm down as i am 99% my gyn wont do shat about it!
