Ok so I had a scan 2day that revealed bulging membranes through the cervix but when the doctor looked at my cervix she noticed that it was long and closed. So from one end everything is ok, and from another things aren't looking good. So now I have to decide if I want a cerclage. I dont know what to do. The cerclage has many risks if done past 20 weeks. Has anyone had a cerclage done at 20+ weeks? And what was the outcome? I'm so scared

WHen I had my 20 week ultrasound, the doctor said the same to me, short cervix and he warned me not to jump, hop or really really avoid falling. If I feel tired with my day to day activity I should rest right away. Its my first time and I'm having a boy too. Congrats to us! Guess we have to relax and have plenty of rest. As for me I already stop working, sleep when I feel too, and ask my hubby to do some things, just like now i put all the socks on the washing machine but i'll wait for him tonight to hang it upstairs. LOL

Here's an update: yesterday at 3pm I got a cerclage (stitch my cervix closed) done. The doctor gave me a spinal anesthesia (epidural) so I can be numb from the waist down. The procedure took about 20minutes and I didn't feel anything. After the cerclage the doctor said he's happy I agreed to do the procedure because my cervix was really short and the membranes (placenta) was starting to show. I have no pain and I'm feeling very hopeful that I will carry this baby to term or really close to it. I'm going to be released from the hospital tomorrow morning and will continue to be on strict bedrest at home until I give birth.

Some woman naturally have a short cervix and that's perfectly fine. But a cervix that is continuing to shorten throughout pregnancy (1st & 2nd trimester) it could lead to preterm labor. Also I've heard that once the cervix starts to shorten, it will most likely begin to dilate (open) which shouldn't be happening until your about 35+ weeks.
