SPD - ( symphysis pubis dysfunction) sorry, little bit of a story.

Hi Girls!!

Well for the last few weeks i had been having this pain in my pubic region ,and it felt like a muscle strain or something like that and only hurt when i need to lift a leg up eg: puttin trousers on,gettin into the bath - them sort of things so didnt really take any notice of it!

After walking to my family members house yesterday afternoon, the pain got really bad and i started feeling a clicking feeling in my hips everytime i took a step, ended up walking like an old women the rest of the way with my 3yr old walking next to me (she could walk faster than me), normally the walk takes about 10mins if that, but it ended up taking me about 20-25mins to walk there and burst into tears when i got to my Gran's.

I explained the pain to my gran and my mum who was there on her dinner from work and my mum ended up having abit of a go at me for not telling anyone about the pain, My mum then explained that when she was pregnant with me 22yrs ago, she had this pain but kept it to herself and didnt tell anyone, when she was 30wks preg, she got in the bath one night and then couldnt get out!!! So my brother who was only 3yrs old at the time had to go knock on our neighbours door to get her to come an help my mum out of the bath, then my mum was admitted into hospital for the next 6wks!!! It turned out she had this Symphsis pubis dysfunction (SPD for short), basically it is something to do with to much of a hormone that is released to soften muscle tissue and bones in the hips to prepare for birth, so it makes your hips unstable and can get very painful, my mum ended up being induced 4wks early because she couldnt walk!!!!

I then went to my drop-in clinic yesterday to see a midwife, i explained the pain and she said i had the early symptons of this SPD, she said that i would have to go on strict bedrest for the next week (which is hard when you have a house to clean and a 3yr old little girl) to see if it will ease a little, But she said it will get worse as i get bigger because of the pressure of the baby, she has said i have to get something caled a pelvis support belt, and then they will monitor the pain but said i may have to be induced early depending on the pain and severety of it.

Woke up this morning, and my hips, pubic area are so so sore and it's hurting when im walking. I had no problems whatsoever when i was pregnant with my daughter!!

Has anybody alse having this???

Sorry to gatecrash second tri, but a lot of ladies in 3rd seem to have the joys of SPD....if you ever need any advice they're really good!!

I think a few of them are being induced a week or two early because of it.

Yep. There are a lot of days I feel like I've been whacked between the legs with a mallet. It's not fun.

I had this with both my DD's i was induced a week early with DD2 because the pain was so bad i literally could not walk and the induction failed and i ended up needing a section . I know that the pain is horrendous try always keeping your knees together when doing things and ask ur midwife if you can be referred to physio or self refer and they may provide u with a support belt. Try not to walk for long distances either as this can really aggravate it and also dont squat this is sooooooo painful. Warm baths help with the pain but try n make sure there is someone there to help u in and out. Rest as much as possible which i know is difficult too. Other than that there is not much else that you can do. I hope you feel better soon hunii xxxxx

something strange though i dont seem to have it yet this time and i had it early with both my previous pregnancies xxx
