I agree with Lara, it's a personal choice. I personally want pain relief, rather than suffer through it, but that's just me. Noone should slate you for deciding either way. xxx

I'm gonna try for a home birth on gas and air. Im currently reading a really good book with loads of positive stories re: pain killer free natural births. I'm trying to use it to ballance out all the negativey from freinds and family.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ina-Mays-Gui.../dp/0553381156

Ignore them and go into it as positive as possible....the more relaxed you are the less your muscels will tense and the more reduced your pain will be.

Good luck and fingers crossed for us both

xxxxxx
thanks for that!! I'll be ordering that book for sure! and I completely agree with you! I'm really not scared about birth (not yet anyway ) and if people don't get it then

another one is childbirth without fear

I'm reading that too - its very positive but it was written in the 1950's and is written in quite an old fashioned way - quite academic english. I think its worthwhile as a read but a bit less accessable.

xxx

I think it would be useful to start a 'natural' birth thread when we get to third tri. We can discuss what we've read or heard in classes we go to and talk about techniques?

I want to try for as natural birth as possible, but remain open to medications - especially if I end up in labour for days!

Ive never made a birth plan!

Ive had big babies, ive had 3 premmies

Ive had hospital births, ive had an unplanned homebirth

Ive had long labours (3 days), ive had short ones (35 mins)

Ive had problem free births, ive had retained placentas requiring theatre

Fun fun fun!

What i will say though is that my last 5 babies have been drug free (had gas and air) and i managed!

Ignore the ignorant ones xx

I saw the Childbirth without Fear book once but was a bit turned off that it was written by a man, LOL! Though I didn't read it so obviously don't know how good it is. Just thought it strange for a man to write about it altogether.
