i didnt think it was needed later on in pregnancy. i thought that you needed a full bladder at your 12 week scan to push the uterus up for a better view. i would have thought that at 18 weeks plus that the uterus woukdnt need pushin up???

I had empty bladders for scans at 12 and 13 weeks and the pics were OK. They said the view was poor because I'm fat - not sure a full bladder can help that!!!

Ive just received my appt for my 20wk scan and it says to drink 1 pint of fluid 1 hour beforehand - so yes you do need a full bladder

You can always ask when you get there and then have a wee if they say you dont need a full bladder but if you go with an empty bladder there isnt much you can do and you might not get very clear pics which would be a shame and you'd be kicking yourself afterwards xx
