my gender scan at babybond didnt need a full bladder. i didnt drink anything. but your 20 week scan at hospital needs you to have drunk a pint of water an hour before otherwise you can be asked to go drink some more and come back later as i had to so they can see everything in detail. good luck x x

think quite often it depends on the machines being used etc. i always have and the sonographers have always said that it does help get a clearer image. this is obviously especially important at your anomaly scan...i drank about a pnt of water about 40 minutes before hand - needed a wee but i wasn't uncomfy and if there is any chance that it can help them get a better pic for diagnostics then i personally think that it is worth doing. enjoy your scans

xx

I wasn't given any instruction for mine, and went with a full bladder. I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but I have some really awesome, clear pictures.

I have NEVER been told to keep a full bladder for any of my many scans with either pregnancy. My last scan at 16 weeks I peed right when I got to the doctors office, and then the tech told me to go again before I had my scan about half hour later! This was when I had my anatomy scan and found out the sex....

I've never been told to have a full bladder and I've never had one during a scan so far with this pregnancy or the last!

I assumed a full bladder was necessary so when I went in at 16 weeks I'd had a ton of water... they made me go to the bathroom and empty it all out before the scan!
