I am soooo happy!!!

I went to see the consultant today at the hospital due to my high BMI and the fact that i am taking citalopram. I had been dreading this for a long time and had worked myself up into such a state about it!
My main concern was that i would be told i HAD to stop taking my citalopram. I tried when i found out that i was pregnant and it had disasterous effects on me so i had to go back on them.My 2nd concern was that i would be treated like a freak for being fat (bmi is 42).
Well i worried for nothing on both things because the consultant was lovely!
He came in the room and shook my hand and congratulated me, he then said "right as you know you are a lady who is built for comfort and not for speed, so we would really like it if you would allow us to keep a special eye on you during your pregancy" I laughed, i had never been discribed like that before!
He said that i have to have my usual scan at 20 weeks, and 2 extra scans at 28 weeks and 36 weeks then if all is ok they will leave me to the care of the midwives. He was just lovely, he went through the usual questions and bits of information for me, then he asked me if i would like him to try to hear the babies heartbeat
Of course i jumped at the chance as i havent heard it yet, and he even said if he couldnt hear it he would get me on the scanner and he would have a quick look to see if baby is ok!
I lay down and he said he could feel the top of my uterus and as soon as he put the doppler on my belly we could hear the baby!!!!!!!
To say i was a bit overwhelmed is an understatement! I was choked up to the eye balls! I had been worrying about the baby as i have been so ill and to hear the hb was so magical to me
He filled in some more paperwork and he said right thats it then.... i quickly piped up and mentioned my citalopram, he said he knows about it and that it doesnt matter as a depressed pregnant mom is not advisable and citalopram has no negative effects on the fetus. Well thank the lord for that! I had been worrying myself sick over this issue ever since i found out that i was pregnant and now i am so releived! I got to hear the babies heartbeat AND got to find out i am not causing my baby any harm
I am soooooo very happy!!!

I am really glad that you are ok to keep on the meds. I know how awful these conditions are and the anxiety of thinking about stopping the meds is just awful. Glad you are happy

I am so pleased your appointment went so well vixta

The consultant sounds really nice - maybe they can give some of the other doctors tips for their bedside manner!
