Gender scan - baby bigger than no. of wks - pls advise

Hey ladies,

Everything is perfect with Bean but as of yesterday, Bean was measuring 19 weeks...it's not a great deal bigger but a week..anyway, I wondered what this means. Does it mean that Bean's going to be BIG or born a week early or is this something that will more than likely sort itself out??

At our 12 week scan, Bean measured bang on!

Anyway, other than that, we saw Bean's hand, feet a clenched fist, Bean's bladder..Bean's face and eye lids...lovely, amazing experience

Any advice greatly appreciated x

Nicola xx

Hey hun im really not too sure i think if there was a problem then the midwives would have mentioned it to you are your scan?? Can you call them up and just ask if they can explain some of notes a bit more.

Im pretty sure that up to about 17/18 weeks that babies tend to mostly grow at the same rate which is fab as it makes the dating scan a whole lot more accurate if you arnt sure of any of your dates but from about 17 weeks or so (maybe a bit further on) they just grow at their own pace - someone correct me if im wrong lol

you hear of ladies having a little boy bump and the dad being 6 foot tall and their measurements on some of the 20 week scans have shown that they will have a long baby lol

I sorry i couldnt be more help but congrats on seeing your little one again
xx

Measuring a week either way is fine at this point. They wont do anything about it because it means nothing

At my 20 week scan, this little one was measuring 24 weeks, apparently a slightly bigger baby but things will settle down towards term, when i was preg with my first son i was measuring huge they thought bubs would be anywhere between 12-13 pounds!!!!! anyway turned out i was carrying loads of fluid and he was born at 8lb 14oz......whew!!!!!

Babies grow at different rates from bout 14 weeks onwards, so It's harder to give an EDD from then on... that's why you tend to have your dating scan around 11-13 weeks when they all grow at a textbook rate.

did you know how far you was at your first scan? as i didn't and in the notes they do i looked and it said can be +/- a week so if yours was that then you may have been + a week to begin with if that makes sense, just look at it this way its a week sooner you get your baby

My baby is measuring three weeks ahead of dates. I should be 13+4 as conceived 15th Aug (only time I BD) but they put at 15+4 from 12 weeks scan BUT babe was measuring 3+4 more than they should so my babe at moment should be measuring 18+4 and i'm not surprised as my babies are all big.

Just go with the flow and when they start measuring you after 30 weeks thats when you will know for sure whats going on.

mine was measuring at almost 20 weeks on 18 weeks scan. Plus/Minus two weeks is never a big deal and doesn't mean anything at this point, some are just growing faster than others.
