I can understand why it's such a controversy and debate. There are no clear answers really, and for every doctor who might say something against the vaccine, there's another who speaks for it. When the doctors themselves aren't in fairly unanimous accord over it, how the heck should we be? Lol..

I've done a lot of musing over it, as I'm sure nearly everyone on here has, especially after reading up, researching, sharing with eachother, etc... the method I decided on in the end is one based on ''risk benefit analysis''. In other words, weighing the risks and benefits of either decision and figuring out which one came out on top.

Pro-vaccine: The CDC said 1 in 25 pregnant women who are contracting the swine flu are dying from it. Those are pretty miserable odds from a medical standpoint. Nevermind the numbers that aren't dying but suffer other complications such as premature labor, etc.. Compare those to the number of people getting the vaccine who suffer rare but serious complications from it, such as an increase in the incidents of Guillen-Baurre Syndrome, etc.. Pro-vacciners might decide the risk of being in deep shit with the swine flu overrides the risk of having a bad reaction from the vaccine or the effects of the toxins in the vaccine itself.

Anti-vaccine: 24 out of 25 women getting the swine flu recover from it. Some might decide they'd rather take their chances with this than be one of the rare people who react to the vaccine. There is some skepticism about the numbers being released on the swine flu because many people are being diagnosed without being tested, even diagnosed over the phone. They also might feel the toxins in the vaccine itself are too worrisome to risk it, even if the effects are longterm and not in the here and now. Some don't even like the notion of injecting the swine flu virus in their bodies, regardless if it's a dead or live strain, when they very well might not have come near the virus at all during the flu season. Many feel a strong immune system is their best defense, and the vaccine doesn't guarantee 100% protection anyway.

I think others could add or alter my list according to their own viewpoints, but it really highlighted to me why it's such a big debate and worry for us. I won't say which side I ultimately decided on as that's not why I wanted to post here. I just think that the best decision is to really do one's own personal ''risk-benefit analysis'' and forge ahead either way with optimism and confidence.

As a personal choice I am glad that I received mine. No offense - I know you are just trying to share information as you put it...but Fox News and a natural health website (also selling their concoctions to boost immunity) are not the most reliable sources of info. For someone who doesn't want to cause controversy....I find your second post a little controversial.

My doctor has had 3 patients in ICU (one died) from H1N1. It's about weighing your own personal risks of contracting H1N1 with the risks of the vaccine. But I do my research very thoroughly and this info you've provided is little more than unfounded fear-mongering. Women have been getting the flu shot (and this is no different - the unadjuvented one anyway) for a very long time....with no side effects to the fetus.

I think you may get a lot of women who have had the jab who find you're second post controversial. It's a personal choice....but to start a thread with the info is one thing.....to have following posts about how glad you all are not having got the jab (even though this info is completely not based on evidence) is another, especially knowing how controversial this subject is.

I had my jab. I'm not offended. It was a personal choice. They are glad they didn't get it. I'm glad I did.

My doctor is pregnant. She got her shot too. She is a very very educated person... if she trusted the shot enough to get it, then so do I.

I am also high risk BESIDES being pregnant, another reason I thought the shot was right for me!

Thats my thoughts....

Also - that article was pretty bad. There are NO proven links between autism and vaccines. There were some theories at a time, but they have since been disproven.

They say amish kids have no autism reported... probably because autism isn't even recognized by them if a child DID have it. AND even if its true that no amish kids are autistic, it could be a million other reasons why... um, no electricity, no processed foods, more organic foods, etc.... they live a much simpler lifestyle!

That was just a REALLY poor example for the author of that article to use!

And - the shot I got was mercury free and adjuvant free....

AND the shots that HAVE mercury have no more than a can of tuna.

Okay... that all I have to say about that!

I had my flu jab and i had the pandemrix shot, after much debate and chat. I decided it was the best for me and my baby, plus i am higher risk as i have asthma too and i have 3 other children and my oh to think about, i cant leave my family without a mother. Im also sure if there really was a link with autism and vaccines that there would be a lot more autistic children out there than there is already. I think a lot of women are being scared off with all there articles that have no proof, especially as the vaccine is the same as seasonal flu just the virus is different.

I was out to dinner last night with some friends and this came up. One of them spent 5 minutes lecturing us all on the evils of the shot, with no evidence whatsoever except 'my sister is a pharmacist, and she's not getting it'. At the end someone asked me if I was getting it and I said 'yes, on Wednesday'. Oops.

That article is entirely scaremongering. There's no fact, no backup, just some vague ideas, some of which (in particular the vaccine/autism link) have been entirely dis proven.

Said 'friend' yesterday also said that since there's someone on my floor at work who has swine flu (the second case out of about 80), I shouldn't be going to work! Cause people can just not show up! With that logic, I shouldn't have gone to dinner either, because one of the girls there works on my floor, and she or anyone else in the restaurant could be carriers. There's only so much of a bubble i can put myself in.

Gah! The whole thing frustrated me, and I just needed to share
