Antenatal classes in Greenwich / Blackheath area?

Hi there...

Not sure if anyone can help.....I'm due in March, living in Greenwich but booked in at St Thomas'.....I've been seeing a community midwife near Waterloo but I wanted to have my antenatal classes closer to home as I thought it'd be a good chance to meet other first time mums who live in my area....phoned my GP who told me to phone my community midwife who doesn't know of any classes over here as they deal with a different area....not really sure where to go now to find classes I can sign up to, and as I'm 24 weeks already I'm worried they'll get booked out.....

Any advice? Cheers -

xxxxxxx

Hi kangaroo,

I live near the Standard (Blackheath) and am due 4/4/10 with second baby. I am having my baby at QE. There are antenatal groups run from manor park surgery if I remember correctly on a Tues 6-8 or you could try your local NCT group. Sorry not much help.

Heya Kanga!

Have to ask...are you aussie??! lol.

I live in Bromley, which isn't too far if you have a car? We have a local Antenatal Yoga class that runs once a week on a Tuesday night. I am attending and can highly recommend them. Each week we also get new mums that visit to give us their birthing story, which is really informative/interesting.

If Bromley isn't too far for you to travel, message me and I'll send you the details.

Thanks guys - your information is much appreciated!!!!

I'm currently looking into the NCT for courses as I know that they do them at in one of the rooms at the university of Greenwich (which would be apt for us at that's where we got married!) but so far all that comes up is some courses at Canary Wharf (which would also be suitable as we're moving over the river soon...) Only thing is they're expensive as far as I can tell - and I don't know that I'll get on as they're meant to get pretty booked up. If that's a no go I'll have a look at the ones you mentioned....just hope I don't miss the boat!

Re. yoga - that sounds great - but as we're going to the other side of the river it may be too far away for me....thanks for the suggestion, though!

MissTanya - I'm not from Australia but my husband is from Perth. We came back from a year over there in August and that's where I fell pregnant (hence the kangaroo name!!)

Hope the pregnancy is going well with you guys - I'm looking to maybe do some running once the baby is born (not straight away, obviously!!) and from what I can tell they do they have a mummy's running club in Greenwich park - not sure if anyone's keen or has looked into it......

A marathon huh? Sounds good....I've done one before but not after giving birth - that's brave (but you may be able to twist my arm!!!!) Let me know if you're keen re. the running club - as soon as I have any time (which is never!) i'll look into it!!

Perth is beautiful....and now that it's getting colder I'm missing it a little....

Thanks Kanga! Am defo interested in the mummies running club. But I wonder if we'd need a special pram for it?? I read yesterday online that jogging prams shouldn't be used until after bubs is 6 months old!! Bummer.

I ran a double marathon earlier this year (2 marathons, 5 weeks apart) and then feel pregnant 3 weeks later. I was successful in the London Marathon Ballot for next year, but need to defer to 2011. Getting a ballot place is like gold dust!!! hehehe. So I am determined not to let it go.

Hubby and I are from Brisbane

Hi Kanga

I live in Greenwich (just by the College in fact!) and I am due on 15 March. There are NCT classes in Greenwich I would suggest giving them a call if you can't find them online. I am booked into some on Saturdays here are the dates:
Day Date Starts Ends
Session 1: Saturday 23.01.2010 10:00 16:00
Session 2: Saturday 30.01.2010 10:00 16:00
Session 3: Tuesday 09.02.2010 10:30 14:00 Women only. Venue TBA
Session 4: Wednesday 17.02.2010 19:00 21:00 Breastfeeding session. Held at Charlton House SE7

There is are ante natal water work out classes at the Arches Leisure centre on a Monday 8pm-9pm and on a Tuesday morning 10am-11am. The classes are quite good exercise and the girls there are really friendly very chatty!

Yes there is a mummy's running club in Greenwich Park - I think they are advertised in the shops over at Royal Hill?

If you fancy meeting some other pregnant ladies both myself and my friend live in Greenwich (her on Park Vista me on Eastney Street) and we'd be happy to meet up for a coffee or something (I say on her behalf!) She's due in Jan..

Wow, thanks 1st timer - that's just what I was looking for!! I may give them a call later and see if there're any spaces left....

Thanks for the coffee invite - that would be lovely!! I'm really keen to meet some other mums - especially if they're having their first too....my sister-in-law is also pregnant but she lives in Nottingham so we chat regularly but only get to meet up once a month or so... My husband and I are moving over the other side of the river this weekend (we've been living with my parents for a couple of months) but love Greenwich and am still planning on spending lots of time there! Let me know if and when you're free (perhaps the following weekend?) and maybe we could do coffee....and, of course, to anyone else reading this who's from the area it would be good to meet up too!!

MissTanya - woah - two marathons in 5 weeks!! That is impressive!! I'm a running novice by comparison - especially these days as I haven't done half as much exercise as I'd hoped (and by 'half as much' I secretly mean none apart from walking!) Normally quite active so it's a shock to the system to be doing so little but I must admit I'm enjoying a bit of down time!! How long have you been living in London for? I've been to Brisbane - love it there too....very tropical!!

Take care all - look forward to meeting up with some or all of you at some point....

xxxxxxxx
