Birth Plan (as per the midwife & registrar)

Some of you may have read my worries for an appointment I had with a consultant at 20 weeks..... well.... sorry to bug you again but.

Ok so I've been told it's my choice but please can someone explain whether my choice is going to endanger my LO.

Had a rough birth with DD - planned HB turned into a ECS and I'm pretty sure I then had PND after (although unconfirmed)

So this time I wanted either HB or a hospital birth with as much time as home before as possible and no interference unless medically needed with quick discharge.

When I mentioned this to MW I got told I couldnt have that as it was dangerous. Apparently I have to:

Go into hospital as soon as labour starts.

Constant monitoring (on a bed as they have no monitors that I can walk about wearing)

Regular Checks on my "work" as my progression needs to be quite quick

Check out won't be arranged till I've spent at least 6 hours on the ward where baby can be checked.

This is all because of my scar. Basically DD was presenting with the wrong part of her head and she wasn't coping with the contractions (I'd been pushing for 45 mins before this was noticed and we went to hospital)
We had no complications after.

So by insisting that I do it my way what risk am I REALLY posing to my unborn?

In my opinion they wouldnt be saying you were at risk if you werent. I would do anything they said as long as it ensured the safe delivery of my baby x x

They're saying I'm at risk cos I've had a CS - apparently all CS's are classed as high risk. Just not sure how high risk. If ya know what I mean.

I'm trying to think of doing it their way but i'm petrified of giving birth that way, having another CS and having PND again, hence me trying my hardest to find a better way,

A friend of mine had a cs with her first child, when she was having her 2nd, she wanted a normal delivery known as a vbac. Her consultant was not happy with this and kept calling her back to the office for growth scans, he was very insistent that she had another cs, but she stuck to her guns and said she wanted anormal delivery, as the baby wasnt too big and was head down, also front to back, he agreed to let her try.....She had a normal delivery with her 2nd but it did have to be at the hospital, just in case something did happen.......I would deff go in to hospital to have your lo, just to be safe as everything is there, they will want to monitor baby often just in case they dont handle the contractions too well, but hopefully everything will be ok......

Sorry im lurking about

I heard normal births after c section were fine? seen LOADS of them on the TV and heard about them on here. I would get a second opinion off a midwife who has previously done a vaginal birth after a c-section. xx

I've accepted that I need to go into hospital - just not to be made to lie on a bed for the whole time as I'm pretty sure i'll end up with another CS as I need to be mobile to cope with the pain.

I thought VBACs were fairly safe as long as there were no complications with the pregnancy!!

I'm the opposite the thought of a VBAC scares the hell out of me and I am electing to have another c-section so I'm probably not much help hun x

The CS wasn't the problem it was the stay in hospital with no help.
If I could go home straight after CS then I'd hapily have one! lol

Yeah I must admit staying in longer was a nightmare and will be worse this time as hubby won't be able to stay as long as will need to be home with our son!!

Saying that I had him sunday morning and came home weds, so not too long!!

Will they not let you have a hospital birth then go home as soon as possible x

As far as I know 6 hours is pretty much the minimum stay in most hospitals. It may sound like a long time but being stitched up and showering after the birth takes way longer than you'd expect so it's probably quite realistic. Providing you and the baby are well then there's no reason you couldn't ask for an early discharge after 6 hours, or even discharge yourself if you're really not coping with being in hospital for longer.

Regarding the continuous monitoring, I can completely see why you're upset! Perhaps you could compromise and agree to intermittent monitoring for 15 minutes every hour with doppler monitoring in between or something like that?
