Unhappy

Hideous Clothing

My lovely mum has been sending me maternity clothes that she has bought online on clearance and I'm trying to be grateful but I just feel awful and ugly. I can't afford any new clothes right now so what she sends it what i have right now that actually fits me right and it's so hard for me to start accepting that i can't dress the way i like anymore. I don't feel sexy, I feel like a house and although I know there are "cute" maternity clothes out there, they are just not in my budget or my mums and what I get left with are tops that make me look like a walking circus tent and pants that are big in the bum and get smaller as you go down the leg, therefore making me look like an oompah loompah. I just threw a bit of a tantrum about an hour ago complaining about why the hell can't stores make clothes that are more like modified versions of clothes people normally wear? It's just NOT FAIR that I have to start looking like a frumpy old bag just because I'm pregnant.

I'm sorry about the rant but it just really got to me today. At first I was in love with my growing bump but it's ever-expanding bigness makes it so I can't look like myself anymore

Have u tried looking on some online auction sites? I've seen a fair bit of maternity wear on there, some are used, but in good condition & cheap!

Aww. I am sorry you feel like this. I know how you feel though. I always felt so frumpy in my prior pregnancies and never really spent a lot of money on maternity clothes. I wore hubby's shirts a lot and I didn't feel very feminine either Trust me, since then, I've never worn any of his clothes.

I'm really not a fan of many of the maternity clothes out there. I'm a girly girl but when it comes to flowers on my shirts...NO!

Babydoll tops are still the style and I bought some from a regular store in the mall.

I also bought 4 pairs of maternity pants from Ebay for $30. The only downfall is you can't try them on before purchasing. I think they will be ok.

Also plan to buy a few track suits in a size bigger.

Hope you feel better soon!

I have thought of that but we're literally living day to day on a very tiny amount of money and just can't afford anything at all other than food and rent After getting all upset i started thinking i might get creative and make my own tops out of my old tops and from scratch since i really like sewing. I feel like such an ass for ranting but I just feel so disgusting lately

I know! The pants are the worst! What I did is went to a Salvation Army (used clothing store) and treid on maternity clothes. Some we not bad except of course the large butt in them so I found some cute tops that were longer and a cardigan to go over shorter tops....that way it cover up that big ars look. I realize that maternity clothes are expensive but you should try to buy a couple of new outfits that look good on you. I found the site www.motherhood.com (Canadian and American Site though) and ordered from it and fell in love with what I picked out. They were nice and comfortable. Expecially the Camo Capri pants and this Red/Khahi/black skirt, and stone cargo pants. Seriously they do not fit like maternity clothes and am planning on keeping them after my pregnancy. I think if you bought a couple of things that you feel comfortable in you will not be wasting your money on something you will not wear and will not feel good in.Good luck girlie!

I know how you feel, just in the past 2 weeks by belly has shot out (I'm actually 21 weeks instead of 20). I definately have a proper bump now. Anyways, I was just buying bigger sizes from Old Navy (winter time, easy to do). Now, those clothes are getting too small and I have no choice but to move to maternity clothes. We don't have money to be spending either. People have given me clothes and some of them are just hideous or don't fit but I wear what I can. I hope your spirits get lifted soon. Maybe you should do what you mentioned, making your own maternity clothes. That would be something to keep you busy and you would be able to be stylish too. I wish I had that talent of making clothes. Cheer up soon sweetie, the baby will be here before you know it and then you will be able to wear normal clothes again.

I know what you mean. I've found the jeans I have are really huge on the bum and tops of your legs. I'm a uk size 8 so I can't find any smaller maternity clothes and live in about 2 or 3 pairs of trouser.

Maybe you could invest in a bump band or 2 so that you can still wear your normal clothes. They'll cover the gap if your regular trousers don't do up properly and also cover the gap when your normal shirts start to ride up. It makes it look like you're wearing a layered top. You can get them on ebay.

What about OH's clothes?

I was quite poor with my first DD, for maternity stuff, I ended up getting old bib overalls from my gramps.

I got some stuff real cheap off ebay this time too. I think $23 for 3 pairs of GAP maternity trousers. And I bought two lots of maternity clothes for $60 total. That has kept me well serviced.

I know HH that you don't have a lot of money, but if you can't find maternity clothing, try OH's stuff, or try to get your mom to send you some $$ instead of maternity outfits you don't like.

OR

I'm sure you're creative, rather than modify your normal clothing... dye, cut, embelish etc. the crappy maternity clothes you don't like.

You don't need but three or four pairs of pants, and that many tops. I know it gets boring, but :: shrug :: we do what we gotta do as mamas

Sacrifice is our middle name when we become mamas and the giving of our very bodies is the first application of that.

Hang in there hon, it doesn't last forever!
