Passing meconium is only common when the baby is either distressed or overdue, and unless the water is VERY very very cloudy with it, it normally doesn't pose any risk, doctors/midwives just like to take precautions
NOTHING during your pregnancy has to be done to you if you choose not to have it done. If they tell you they need to, ask them why. If they can't give a clear explanation, tell them NO you don't want it done. Your body, your baby, your choices
