Acupuncture

I've pulled my back out. I have a bad lower back anyway, but the things I normally do to get it fixed are not working. I have heard acupuncture has worked for some people, and just wondering if any of you have used it? If so , did it work? Did it hurt? Did you have to specifically look for one who knows about pg or do they all know about it? Thanks for any advice.

AGGGHHH NO don't get accupuncture done, I actually had a go at doing acupuncture last night, because I'm training to be a physiotherapist, and the lady teaching me told me that it has a high rate of causing miscarriages. I wanted her to do it on me so I could see what it felt like.

But she said she couldn't do it because I'm pregnant. Just thought I'd let you know.

Have you tried a physiotherapist? I regularly treat people who have pulled their back out and its really successful and helps a lot. x

Thank you so much for letting me know. I was wondering if it was safe or not. I have not tried a physiotherapist...not sure I know what it is. How would I go about finding one?

I go every single week for accupuncture. There are places that you can not have stimulated while pregnant, but a someone who has been properly trained will know that. I have found that it has really helped me with my back when it is hurting. I always feel sooo good on the day I have it done. I trust my accupuncturist, she has been practicing for years, and has even traveled to China for training.

I have been having acupuncture treatments during my pregnancy as well. It was recommended by my doctor and has given me a lot of relief from lower back pain and sleeplessness.
You may want to do a bit of research before crossing it off your list of possibilities, it's done me a world of good.

Acupuncture is perfectly safe in pregnancy, my doctor recommended it and it helped with my migraines and tiredness.

This link might help http://www.amazingpregnancy.com/preg...icles/549.html

I have never heard anything about it causing miscarriages, but it is important to have someone who is trained.

These may help.

I had acupuncture all the way through from a few weeks pregnant and every other week after i had no problems, had a normal birth and i have a healthy happy 2 yr old.

Acupuncture is a beautiful thin!! Nope won't hurt at all and you'll feel amazing afterwards! My friend actually had acupuncture done while she was in labour to minimise the back pain and said it worked really well.

Just make sure that the person doing it has trained to treat pregnant women as well because it has to be done a tad different from what I understand.

Sorry haven't been online for a few days so only just read the other replies, it has only been of recent months that research has found that acupuncture can cause miscarriages, but obviously there is a risk with many things. Acupuncture can set of certain hormones in some peoples bodies that increase the chance of a miscarriage.

As for finding a physiotherapist, it depends what country you are in? However if you search on the net they are easy to find.

As some of the ladies on here have said they are having acupuncture with absoloutely no problems, so maybe it depends on what type of acupuncture you are having done. xx

Do you have any links to this charlottecco2? I have done a Google search on "miscarriage acupuncture 2008" and found only articles suggesting that acupuncture helped women who had a history of miscarriage

{A German study, done in 2002, followed a group of 80 women who did both IVF and acupuncture. 34 women got pregnant, a success rate of 42.5%. Of the 80 women involved in the study who received IVF without any acupuncture treatments, only 21 women (26.3%) became pregnant. More recently, an American study involving 114 women showed that 51% of the women who had acupuncture and IVF treatments became pregnant versus only 36% of the women who had IVF alone. Deeper research of this study revealed that, while 8% of the women in the acupuncture group miscarried, the rate of miscarriage in the IVF-only group was 20%. Furthermore, women who received acupuncture also had lower rates of ectopic pregnancies.}
