I'm Currently Feeling: | Opinion on Circumcision for boys Hi all!
My husband and I have been discussing the option of circumcision. All the boys in his family is circumcised and in my family it is unheard of.
I just cannot bear to think of the pain I will have to put our baby through just because of a tradition. My husband says it is not just a tradition but there are health and hygiene benefits too.
Would you circumcise your boy and if so,why? Please, I need honest opinions regarding this.
Thanks! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'm not very educated in the way of circumcision. But i would not have my baby boy circumcised as it sounds like unneccesary pain for the baby. The majority of men are not circumcised and they are all fine so i can't see any bad points for being not circumcised.
The thought makes me cringe.
Also, is this a religious tradition?

I'm Currently Feeling: | sorry i cant help much except to say, I will circumcise my boy mainly because my Dh and all the boys in my family are circumcised...my 2 sisters have 6 boys between them and they are all circumcised, they've said the whole ordeal only last about 7-10days. I am dreading it though. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | There are only health & hygiene issues if the willy is not kept clean. If it is kept clean, there are none of those issues at all. I am against the procedure tbh as if there is no reason for it, why interfere with a boys natural being? If there is a medical reason for it then fine that is different. But hygiene and health is no good reason at all, in my opinion. There was a thread all ready on this a while back that may help you which has varying opinions.......Good Luck with your decision! x http://www.babyandbump.com/postnatal-support/15100-circumcision-necessary-not.html |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Sorry Bisbis, would not do it just because other males in family were 'done'. I think its cruel and causes unnecessary pain. Know there can be medical reasons, which is fine as procedure is being performed under correct circumstances. No one would be allowed near my daughters to snip off some skin, unless there were medical reasons, so why is it allowed to be done to boys | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | The main reason why its done across different cultures now is because it is much more hygienic. The baby really does not feel anything. The baby cries because it is uncovered for a few seconds. ive been at tons of circumcisions. they are always done very well and only takes a couple of seconds. Afterwards the baby is given a dressing and the diaper/nappy is put back on. The baby is always immediately quiet,or the mother nurses. Its much better to have the circumcision so early on where the baby really doesnt feel much ,than later on in life where its painful. I just wanted to give you an opinion as someone who practically every male i know is circumcised, and everyone has been absolutely fine. good luck with your decision and if you do go ahead with it, dont watch for your own sanity as youll just get upset, it really wont take long and youll be much happier just taking your baby afterwards. |

If we didn't keep our doo dahh clean, we would also be open to infection & smells - it is about maintaining hygiene, not making it hygienic it. My opinion only, don't shoot me! x |

I'm Currently Feeling: | i think mother nature did a good enough job. I'll be leaving my babies bits intact if it's a boy. |

Having said that!!! | I agree, a baby may only cry for a little while but so they do when they have an injection, or hurt themself but it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt! In the link below (about a third of the way down), why do Doctors use a Local Anaesthetic if there is NO pain?! There is also good info on there: http://www.pedsurology.net/main/circumsicion.html |
