Ordinarily, I'd be completely against circumcision...but for some reason I find myself considering it (if it's a boy). My bf is circumcised and I just want them to be the same. which sounds completely off the wall I know. I don't think we will end up getting him 'done' though unless there is a medical need for it. But part of me has considered it or is or something.

Again that is a matter of opinon......as someone stated before in the US it is VERY common, I will circumcise my son not only do I feel its more healthy my fiance also believes that it is, and yes thats only our opinions. Im also doing it for Religious beliefs. We are jewish and its part of our religion. Also as part of the religion after this is done the child is officially named and again in my faith we name after someone who has passed on, in my case that is my father and its in honor of him also this is done I do think its kinda weird too. However after speaking to my fiance who is circumsized and my family , we think feel its right for us.
Also anyone who this this hurts the child the more I read on it , its not hurting them they are more upset being constricted for the 2 minutes it takes to do it than feeling any pain.
Seems the more i look this up the more opinions there are, I feel every family should do whats best for there family.
Good Luck to everyone making this decsion.

Theres no way I'd subject my little fella to something like that if it was completley unneccesary. Its upto you though. I wouldn't be doing it to suit a 'tradition' though, I think thats all for the wrong reasons. If it was medical and HAD to be done then fine, but not just to follow suit.

Do you have any proof to that?

Of course it hurts them! maybe only for a couple of mins but it still hurts, just because something doesnt scream its head off.
As said before why use Local anaesthetic cream if it doesnt hurt.
Its like people saying that docking dogs tails doesnt hurt! thats why it has been banned.

Again I feel there are lots of strong opinions on this topic.
Every family should do what is best for them.

personally i would never get it done unless there was a real medical reason for it, but it does seem to be done is US a lot more than UK, I can't ever remember having discussions about it before
I would just like to comment on this though

I have never ever had to pull Jacks foreskin back, to keep him clean, there is no need for it and could be very nasty if tried and cause unneeded infections

That's not a very good justification at all.
I couldn't agree more. If we have a boy, we are going to leave his anatomy entirely intact. My husband, after doing some research, has even considered restoring his own brutalized self. It just seems like yet one more thing that has become a standard part of the whole over-medicalized birthing scene here in the U.S.

: Will it hurt my baby?
A: Published studies have shown that the pain control protocol is very effective. Many babies can sleep right throughout the procedure. Most babies experience little or no pain.
Q: What can I expect my baby to be like after the circumcision?
A: It is not unusual for the baby to sleep for 6-8 hours after the circumcision and to miss a feeding. Some babies will be irritable for a few hours afterwards. The baby should void feeding within 4 hours of the circumcision.

All this indicates pain.
