what is wrong with moses baskets?!?!?!

Okay ( a bit of a rant this one ), the OH is absoloutley adamant that we do not need a moses basket... i just dont get it! he seems to be dead against them for some reason, and just says they are pointless. I mean its not even like they are that expensive!

Against my argument that they are handy to put next to the bed with the newborn, he replies "we'll just put the cot next to the bed"... ok thats fine if we had a big bedroom, but we dont, plus you want the cot in the baby's room.. coz thats just where its supposed to be! lol so if the cot (or cot-bed as we are getting) was next to the bed in our room i wouldnt be able to get into or out of bed without climbing over him on one side or the baby on the other! not exactly practical... plus if i did want to put the baby down whilst in his/her room i wouldn't have anywhere for him/her to go ....

Ok, so i try to point out that they are handy for naps in the daytime when you can have bubba in the living room with you. (im talking in the first few days home etc...)

He replies, just put bubs in his/her room... so yeah I'll either carry him/her around all day or just lock baby away all day in the nursery that has no cot in it coz its next to our bed taking up all the space! great Idea batman!

ok so what im mainly looking for is for someone to please tell me that i'm not crazy for wanting a moses basket.

I didnt even think it was a big thing.. just one of those forgone conclusions when shopping for a new baby... " pram... check! nappies.. check! moses basket...check! " but obviously im living in an alternate universe, or away with the fairies!...

well i think hes crazy what are you goin to do when the baby is down stairs??? put him/her in a box?? and yes a baby can go straight into a cot from newborn but a moses basket is so much more suitable and they are not that expensive ive just bought my friend one and it cost me £33 off ebay with stand and delivery

I was under the impression that Moses baskets or cribs are safer than putting them in a cot when they are tiny do a search lol that'll be a good come back! Xx

as much as I agree you will need a moses basket, it is so much more practical and baby is more likely to settle, you will ideally need to have the cot in your room at some point anyway. They recommend that you have baby in your room for first 6 months and a baby can only stay in a moses for approx 3 months max. But I definately would recommend a moses, my son loved his and settled in it really well xxx

I consider them to be unnecessary as well, so I'm the wrong one to ask. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting one, but we don't need one.

I don't think it's silly to want a moses basket. I have mine already, I bought mine second hand and didn't cost too much at all. It'll be so much easier for baby's early days xx

im totally with you on this one!! your rant was funny but i have to agree the reason im getting one is so bubs can nap etc in living room and to put next to our bed at night (no climbing over required) lol!
