thanks for your reply. Im considering paying for the NCT antenatal classes because they include more practical skills like breathing techniques, massage to help with birth etc etc. Id love to hear from anyone who went to one on whether they thought it was worth the money.

I'm a first timer so I feel a class might help me prepare for the unknown

I think the NCT are supposed to be a little better than the NHS ones, but whether they are so much better to warrant the expense, I don't know. I think they are supposed to be good from the point of view of meeting other couples in the area who are due about the same time and who you might consider socialising with once the babies are born, but not everyone is interested in that. A colleague said that he would recommend the NCT ones as his wife made some great friends who helped keep her sane during her maternity leave. If you are one of the first out of your friend group to have a baby I could imagine it can ben quite isolating at times. We are, and I'm not sure yet how our friends are going to react to us having a baby. They are all still young, free and single and living the high life. Having said that, we will probably just do the NHS ones as I don't think we can afford to do the NCT and they get booked up fast anyway.
Sorry for rambling on!!

im just coming to the end of my NCT classes and at first i thought it was going to be stuck up and a waste of money but actually they have been great.
We have a great group of people, 14 in the class so not really high numbers like the nhs ones and we have a good laugh.
Were all going out tomorrow night for a meal and have planned the reunion after the babies are born!

Id def recommend them and think the price is worth what you get out of it.
