horrid isn't it...
as for prevention - I've been told to eat small meals, only to sip fluids within an hour of eating (if you drink too much the food doesn't digest properly apparently), no bubbly drinks/caffeine/tomatoes/spicy foods/citrus/fried foods - although I've had those and sometimes they cause it, other times they don't...

I find that sipping chamomile / peppermint tea helps calm it once it acts up... and sleeping with your head elevated

I've had chronic heartburn even before I was pregnant. Now it's worse and I can't take anything for it. Best remedy so far for me is to drink a cup of milk when it happens. You can also prop the legs of your bed up on one side so your upper body is elevated when you sleep.

Go the docs and get a gaviscon prescription. My doc prescribed me 500mls and it didn't cost me anything. It's perfectly safe to take when pregnant xx

Oh man, this is just what i needed to find, it is music to my ears!

Been in hospital with severe pain in my chest, (abdo) got given morphine as it was so bad, sent me home with gaviscon and omiprazol, this was six weeks ago, over the weekend ended back in hospital with similar pain but moved round to my side, it felt like some one was stabbing me with a knife. The doc came back and said he had no idea what was wrong with me, it so doesnt help me! Just keep going with the previous meds and said it will prob get worse as i get further on in my pregnancy, the joys! So basicly i have acid reflux or indegestion! Or all my insides are moving up and causing me pain, Arghhhhhhhhh..... Anyone else ever felt like this?

I've been suffering from very bad acid reflux and Gaviscon has litteraly saved my life! Sleeping with my head up, avoiding spicy/irritating food and drinks and not bending too much helps too.

As already said Gaviscon and extra strong mints work wonders and try to stay upright when its really bad i find bending and lying down make it so much worse , also acidic foods and citrus . I feel for you cos i have it really bad at the moment and its making me sick every day xx

I agree - Gaviscon!!! I can eat clementines and have orange juice... it's fizzy drinks that spark my heartburn off.
