Starting to freak!

Okay, at first giving birth wasnt a big scare for me and it hasnt scared me since ive became pregnant. But, in the last week ive been thinking more and more about it and im starting to freak out! Im a rather small lass and im gonna have this baby to push out, its gonna hurt like hell and i want a natural birth which wont help much pain wise. And im scared the babys gonna be breach or her shoulders will get caught or ill have to get them clamp things to help her out. Or a c-section! I keep freaking out big time when i think about it, even now im starting to shake :-/
am i being over dramatic and stupid?
Is anyone else really really scared??

Me really scared! I don't do needles. The thought of an epidural is terrifying. The thought of that needle thing where you can pump your own pain relief scares me...

The pain scares me. Generally yes scared.

Have to keep telling myself that it will all be worth it when I have a lovely baby at the end of it!

xx

def scared hun, its natural to be scared of the unknown. Please dont do what i did, i started watching birth videos on the net and it was the worst thing i could of done.

for some reason most of them on there where the ones done at home so they had no pain reliefe at all not even gas and air.

when u panic just tell yourself you will have your beatiful child in your arms after and that must make it worth the pain right?

hey.. honestly hun, try not to be so scared.. although it is totally natural to be!
i was TERRIFIED... PETRIFIED!! i spent months torturing myself, and arrived at the hospital shaking like a leaf. i was convinced something would go terribly wrong, that i would never be able to cope with the pain, and that i would end up with all the drugs going, and intervention in the end.
with only gas & air (and i am the biggest wimp around!)my only regret is that i was so frightened.. i wish i could go back and do it again without being so afraid!
its really really sore. no point in lying about it, but its a different sort of sore, id rather have labour than bad toothache, or bad ear ache..
it really helps to think of it as pressure rather than pain, that really helped me out, as did reading 'childbirth without fear' while reading it i didnt think much was going in and i didnt feel much less scared, but once i got going with labour it all started to come back to me, and it really helped!
so really... look forward to it rather than dreading it.. it will be the best day of your life!
good luck girlies!!

Mize thanks for mentioning birth videos, I am going to go and scare myself some more, I haven't realized there is yet another way to do it

PS I am PETRIFIED! I've always been a chicken, I can't have my blood taken and started crying in the hospital when they wanted to give something through my vein to make me asleep for five minutes surgery. Seriously I don't know how on earth I'd be doing this and not having a heart attack at the same time. I am hoping my brain would shut off and my body will take care of everything by itself.

It's definitely not unusual to be scared but you have to think if it were that bad, would people continue to have babies?!

It's normal to be scared, especially as it's something you've never done before but you WILL get through it

Funny thing is, i LIKE birthing video's. I find them fasinating. It's just starting to dawn on to me that soon ill be the one doing that and im like, but its a baby its bloody huge compaired my bits. I keep thinking i wont be able to push her out or something, my mothers fault for telling me she sucked me back in by accident lol. The pain isnt a big bother for me, pain i can deal with. But im not sure how to explain it, just the fact that im going to push out this small fragile child out of my body is totally freaking me out. And im sure i just made no sense

As the other ladies have said, it`s totally normal to be scared- you`d probably be abnormal if you weren`t scared.

That being said, women have done this all over the world since the dawn of time and made it through (often having many more after). We too will make it through whether that be with pain relief or none, vaginal birth or c-section and everything in between, we will deliver our babies into this world and we will be okay

I like the suggestion to think of the pain as pressure and not pain, I`m hoping for a natural childbirth (we don`t have gas and air in Canada, so that`s not an option).

I have a high pain tolerance but I`ve never had a child and I know that it`s a completely different type of pain but I`ve had dislocated bones, a broken jaw, and large tattoos and breathed through it all okay so I`m hoping with the `positive`spin on this type of pain I`ll be okay- but who knows!
