I have been put down to have one of these glucose tests when i am 26 weeks as diabetes runs in my family, my sister had diabetes whilst she was pregnant but has not got it now, her kids are fine.

GTT's are nothing to worry about! i had mine about a month ago because one of my urine samples had a bit of glucose in it so it was just to make sure this was a one off and not GD. Results came back as normal, however my sister-in-law does have GD and it does not seem to affect her much, seems to be kept under control by diet alone. Only considerable difference between myself and her is that she is not allowed to go overdue so no late baby for her!! The blood test is also a good excuse for them to take some extra blood and check your iron levels etc.

Am sure your test results will come back normal anyway

I had my glucose test at 24 weeks.
I drank a fuzzy orange drink (think Cplus) that had 50 grams of sugar, waited an hour and gave 2 blood samples.
results came back normal at 5.6, and I was really scared they were gonna be abnormal.

I'm not sure about the immunizations, but I think I heard the same thing you did from one of my friends. The glucose test really isn't that bad. The drink is ultra-fizzy and VERY orange-y, but really, doesn't taste awful or syrupy. You've got 5 minutes to drink it which kinda sucks, but I just downed mine. The hour wait is the worst part cause it's SOOOO boring. Bring a friend. I went with one of my friends that had to have a 3-hour GT done so we wouldn't be bored. Good Luck! Oh yea...reminds me..I have to go back for another one in a month or so...

Hey hun! Yeah the gestational diabetes test is for YOU, not baby. It can affect baby but I wouldn't worry about it. For the most part, you're more at risk if you are overwieght or have certain other factors (you can do a search online for the risk factors of GD). Anyway, don't worry like it was said above, very few women get this. And the test is easy enough (although mine with my daughter wasn't flavored, so it tasted like flat sprite and I thought I'd puke on the taste LOL)!
