I first felt little pokes at 16 weeks and they've only gotten stronger and more frequent since then. My mother, however, told me that since they didn't feel like 'butterflies' that it wasn't the baby- my midwife disagreed but it's very obvious now that they are indeed the baby So for some people it may not feel like flutters, but actually like little tiny pokes or flips.

Yes I couldn't agree more. I haven't felt butterflies or roller coatster feelings that some describe either. What i feel is exaclty what you would imagine you would feel if something small was moving inside you. I wanted it to be magical but so far it really feels kinda normal....early days yet this too might change. Still very cool.

Yeah I'd say butterflies around 16 weeks every week or so, then at about 19 more regularly, then suddenly at about 22 + I'm feeling him much much harder, moving around most of the time, same times of day - hard enough for hubby to feel now Suddenly it just got harder around the 19 week mark and the feelings you've had and thought - was that the baby - turn out to be the baby!!!
