Generlly in a "normal" pregnancy you get two scans - One to date the pregnancy at around 12 weeks and an anomoly scan at around 20 weeks.

Under most health authorities you would not have another scan unless there was any concern about your baby or if you were classed as high risk.
-If your Midwife thought you were measuring excessively big or small at one of your ante natal appointments she would send you for a scan...or if you were experiencing reduced fetal movements you would be sent for a scan.

I had frequent growth scans every 4 weeks from 24 weeks until birth because I was classed as high risk and my babies growth needed monitoring because the blood condition I have can cause fetal growth retardation or fetal demise.

I think RachieH is completely right, most places only do the 12 and 20 week scan unless there is concern about your baby.

With my first two pregnancies, I was only given one scan at around 20 weeks.

So happy to know that private scan clinics are now in Canada!!! I will be taking advantage of it

Here too. I got one at 8wks and one at 20wks. I did get an extra one at 21wks cause they didn't get good enough pics at 20wks though. My friend has GD and she gets a scan every 2 weeks.

I heard it's just the 2 scans unless you need more. My Mum had weekly scans with me throughout the pregnancy because they didn't think I had all my organs so as soon as I was born they took me away to check. But everything was fine .

Yup, I'm with everyone else on this!

With my first pregnancy I had them every month from 18 weeks on, but that was because they found a uterine problem and had to make sure she was growing properly (they didn't know what the problem was yet). After having her by c-section they were able to figure out what it was, and this pregnancy I don't get any more than normal either. I had the one to measure due date, and my 20-week one is coming up!
