Well here's my hints and tips and I hope they help but really, pregnancy is probably the worst time to try and adamantly change your sleeping position!!!! Best of luck!!!!
I used to be a front sleeper but to sleep on my side I need to have a huge fat pillow right up against my front. I think it's the best thing next to having a real bed UNDER you is having a big pillow up against you. It kind of mimics that thing that makes it comfy to sleep on your front. Like swaddling for front sleepers.
As for hips, we've just gone and spent a fortune on a new bed and mattress because I had bought a really cheap one about 5 years ago and that was obviously an issue. I spent one night on my mums orthopaedic mattress a few weeks ago and I felt and slept so much better after one night's sleep!
So for your general well being, you need a relatively firm mattress dependent on your weight and to top it off you need a lovely cushy mattress topper. If you can't afford a new mattress or already have a good one then maybe try setting up a floor bed? Thats what I've been doing since I discovered our mattress is sh*t. I currently sleep on three folded over double quilts (so six layers of quilt!!!) until the new bed and topped arrive on Saturday!!!
Mattress toppers come in all types but I've read that memory foam, which is very comfy, isn't great for babies and so didn't buy one just in case boogalu wanted to co-sleep occasionally.

If you can't be bothered with a mattress topper, if you have any spare quilts or can borrow some fold them up under you and fluff them up and they shoudl provide enough cushy padding for your hips.
Also you "should" apparently sleep with a pillow between your legs if on your side.
If you're used to sleeping on your front then trying to sleep on your side will take a will of steel but the sooner you adamantly get used to it the better as sleeping will become more and more of an issue (apparently) the later into pregnancy we all go!!!!!
