Pram won't fit in boot :(

I drive a Kia Picanto and dh has an astra. I love my little car but it has very limited bootspace (I'm talking 4 carrier bags of shopping and that's it!) and had thought of getting a new one but am still paying off the finance on it, so if I get a new one on finance they'll add what I owe onto the monthy payments of whatever the new one would be. So this weekend me and dh have decided that I will have his car whilst on mat leave as the astra would only be sat on the car park at his work, and he takes my car to work instead. Then when I go back to work full time, I can then afford to get a new car when I'm back on full pay again.

What I was wondering though, is could I put the car seat in the front of mine if I turn the airbag off on the passenger side, and put the folded pram on the backseat with the seatbelt round it to keep it in place and stop it flying forward if I had to stop suddenly?

I didn't know you could turn airbags off in cars, I was gonna say the baby would be allowed in his/her carseat in the front providing an air bag isn't fitted so with regards to turning it off i didn't know that was possible.

This link tells you exactly what is & isn't allowed hun x

Why would you not put the chassis for the pram in the boot? The wheels will get dirty surely you wouldnt want that strapped on your backseat? if its in the boot it will lie flat and if you stop suddenly then it cant get far as theres the backseat in the way. The carseat should be ok in the front provided the airbag is off. But Its not as safe as the backseat if someone drives into you head first. If its to be looking at the baby you can buy little mirrors a bit like rearview ones that clip on so you can look in your mirror and see baby.

I can turn the airbags off if mine so would think that would be fine. I am having mine on the backseat though - just because there is two of them I guess lol.

I just changed my car for the same reason - I was driving a lovely wee mitsubishi colt but with a second on the way I knew the pram wouldn't fit in the tiny boot and I would need two car seats so couldn't tip the seats forward to make room. Do the rear seats split in your picanto? Maybe you could get the pram in that way? I've changed up to a 5 door astra as, even if I'd turned the airbag off on the front seat of the colt to put a baby seat in there, there just wouldn't be any space for shopping etc.

Can you put your back seats down? That would make your boot bigger?

"KIA made a big thing about interior space, leg and headroom. With the rear seats up, luggage capacity is a poor 157 litres, but fold the rear seats down and you get a flat floored compartment capable of taking 882 litres if you load it to the ceiling" You can leave this permantly down and you would have plenty of room for shopping and the pram.

I have the same problem and my back seats down fold down i bought my car a year ago and i have been looking for a pram i can fit into the boot when i have the roof down and i think i have found one but i would have to but the baby in the front seat with the front air bag off.

>not my car just a good photo my car is red
