My MW's an eejit & my Boss sucks!

I just have to have a quick rant about my eejit MW and stupid boss!

I went for my 25week appointment on Friday, and after an hour wait, I went into see my MW who was completely flustered and kept moaning at me about how busy she was (which of course made me feel bad, and try to rush things) so bascially I forgot all about my MATB1 form, and my HIP grant!! Luckily I called back once i'd left and she did my MATB1 form (as I have to give it to work ASAP) and left it at reception!

Anyway......I was sure that i'd have to have a glucose tolerance test (as my BMI is 34, and my LO is 2 weeks bigger than he should be) anyway....I asked her about this, and mentioned the above 2 facts...she said ohh no I dont think you need one...dont worry! I said well i'd quite like to have one please, just in case......she then re-read my notes, and said ooh your right, you should have one!!!! Anyway, she said she'd book it in, and call me with the date.....which she didnt do!!

I just called the hospital to see if they had me booked in anywhere...they didnt but booked me in over the phone (as I found out they HAVE to do it before 27 weeks, which doesnt leave me long!)

Anyway.....I booked myself in for it this Monday.

Sooo my contract at work is due to expire next Thurs.....but found out this morning they are extending it for a month anyway I went to let my boss know, and she said well you have no holiday left do you.....so you cant take time off until your new contract kicks in (Mon 21st) she should know I dont have to take these as holiday, but I didnt want to argue with her, esp as she's the one who decides if I stay or go!!

Just as I was going to call the hospital to see if I could get an appointment the following week, I got a call from General Surgery (I have gallstones, and have been waiting for an appointment to see a consultant!) anyway...they said, he needs to see you urgently....can you come in on Tuesday afternoon? I had to say yes, as I've been waiting for this for weeks, and if he thinks it urgent i'm not putting my health at risk.........

Anyway I called antenatal back, and after a lot of persuasion and debate they finally agreed to book my glucose test in for the Tuesday morning....I thought taking 1 day off was better than 2 half days.

Anyway.....I went to discuss this with my boss, who said, Rachel I've told you, you have no holiday left....I explained I was fully aware of that, but due to the urgency of the gallstones, I couldnt miss the appointment......I said I'd just use a days holiday I get from the new contract....which she finally agreed.

How do I tell her I also have a growth scan, and MW appointment for my Anti D injections on the 29th....LOL I am NOT going to take this as holiday, as it then means the only 2 days I got went on appointments grrrrrr (I think I may have to phone in sick!!)

Oh sorry this was so much longer than I thought......just had to rant!

Sorry you have having a stressful time at mo.

You are allowed time off for any antenatal appointments, regardless or what they are or that you're only a temp. You don't have to take holidays for these.

Try telling her that!!! Plus I dont know if the gallstone appointment counts as pregnancy related (even though the pain has only happened since being pregnant!)

I think i'm going to take that as holiday, and then call in sick for my next appointment.....at least then i'll have 1 day left to actually use as holiday!!

I just cant believe my MW said I didnt need the test, and then forgot to book me in!! Silly mare!

Your gallstones don't but everything else should. Your boss sounds a cow and needs to be read the employment act!!!

At least you managed to book yourself in for it. She probably forgot seeing as she was so busy but doesn't reassure us mums-to-be when they are meant to be the one person we can depend on for help!

That's rough. I'm very lucky that my schedule is flexible and I can use my sick time for any appointments I need. It's one of the things my boss is very good about. I'm sorry yours is giving you a tough time.

I was going to say exactly that! don't take it as holiday - you should get it as entitlement!

If you boss discriminates against you because you are pregnant you have cause to take her to a tribunal. You shouldn't be the one worried, it should be her. Tell HR that you need time off for antenatal appointments and that your boss 'wasn't aware' you were entitle to them so can they please make her aware! Hell you are allowed time off if you want to go to aquanatal!

It does make me laugh ladies, as I work in a Legal department in a large company!! You'd think they'd know better!!

If I tell her about the next appointment when my new contract kicks in, she'll make me take it as holiday again!! Therefore a sicky will definately be pulled! Especially as by that point i'll only have 2 weeks left, and I dont want it extended further!!

I do feel sorry for any ladies who dont use forums like these or use google much.....I wouldnt have known about the glucose test if it wasnt for you ladies, so I'm glad I am on here!!

Suz - I'm glad you missed my rants!! I could post them all day to be honest - peoples imcompitency drives me mad!! Thanks for the congrats too I've been so scared they werent going too, and i'd be skint (as in majorly skint!) and living off beans on toast for weeks!

sorry to hear hun your boss sounds like a right silly moo (politeness)...but id make it clear to her that she cannot force or make you take holidays for anything pregnancy related., nor can she ask or tell you to cancel them.

i picked up a leaflet in my docs surgery when my boss pulled this and brazenly went in and handed it to her after she deducted one app from my wages. the colour soon drained from her face when i threatened to phone HR and my Union. this counts whether u r a temp or not, as you have a contract see how the silly witch likes that
