Level II Ultrasound -> enlarged kidneys

I'm 21 weeks along. I had a level II ultrasound a week ago yesterday, and spoke with my midwife about the results today. She said that everything looked normal, except that the technician had noticed "slight kidney dilatation," which translates as enlarged kidneys in my baby. She said not to worry, and that she's seen this before, and it often turns out to be nothing...but can I take her reassurance to heart? OF COURSE NOT!!!! Now I'm freaking out thinking that something's wrong with my sweet little one.

Does anybody have any experience or knowledge in this area?

Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom!

I don't have any experiences in this but I hope all is well. I'm sure the baby is fine, especially if she didn't seem worried about it. Hopefully they sort it out for you hon

I don't have any experiences in this either, but like Jenny said, she would have really said something if it was a huge concern. Just be optimistic and try not to stress yourself out worrying! I know...easier said than done!

at my 17 week u/s i was told that one of baby's kidneys was bigger than the other, but my doctor said that was perfectly normal and they never suggested a level II U/S.
everything is probably just fine.

You'll prob find you'll go back for another scan, and if not..demand one!!

Over here we always follow up on things like that..

Dont worry to much though, it is quite common..

I dont know anything about large kidneys, but at my mums 20 weeks scan with my little brother they noticed there was a problem with his kidneys and offered her the option to end her pregnancy. Im sure if there was any serious problems they would have said something, I know its hard but try not to worry!

Im sure everything will work out okay, keep in mind most doctors dont sugar coat so if she said it will be ok shes probably right its normal for you to worry, and look at it this way at least she honest if its no big deal she could have avoided telling you... Hope everthing works out.
