| Amnio Thursday So I'm going to have an amniocenesis done on Thursday and the reality of it all just set in today.
Has anyone else had one?
How long did it take before you got results from the doctor?
This is the most anxious I've felt since becoming pregnant. I'm trying to focus on the positive- if everything looks good that will be so reassuring....and I'm pretty psyched to find out if I'm carrying a boy or a girl! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Have had an amnio with each of my successful pregnancies (4). Took about 15 mins. They located position of baby using ultrasound, swabbed belly with antiseptic, twice I was given a local anaesthetic, twice nothing, then in went needle to draw out fluid, at same time keeping an eye on ultrasound screen,. Sticky plaster over hole and a cup of tea! We were screening for chromosome problems, . Had amnio on Friday and results about 11 days later. Need time for cells to grow. Thought of it was worse than procedure | | | | Status: Offline

It's something that my husband feels very strongly about but at nearly 16 weeks the thought of making a decision upon hearing bad news is very unsettling for me.
Did you get to watch the ultrasound while the procedure was being done? I'm wondering if they will tell me the sex from the ultrasound or if I'll have to wait until my follow up appointment.
The last ultrasound was at 9 weeks so I'm really hoping to seeing new images! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | There was a screen in the corner that I was able to watch. We really had the test to acertain if baby had same translocation as was in some of my hubbies sperm. It affects the chromosomes, if we got an affected sperm usually lost pregnancy before 14 weeks. One of my daughters has the translocation, but it is balanced so she is physically and mentally fine, but will affect her ovum so may have many miscarriages. Other daughters are unaffected. Will need to tell her this as she gets older. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | Bexxie, not sure what pcr is? When we had last amnio they were talking about paying for a test that gave quicker result, but came back to say not applicable for what they were testing for in our case. I know the lady who was having an amnio at same time as me did go for the quicker result, they were checking for downs syndrome in her case, could this have been what you had? | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | i had this done about 10 days ago, the procedure was not to bad, but i was in agony for 2 days after, they said it may be because i have strong abdominal muscles. But i had severe cramping and literally could not move or walk. I think i may have just been unlucky,
Sorry i'm not trying to scare you. just make sure you rest for at least 2 days after the procedure and take it easy. I had real trouble urinating because of the pain, so if you do end up in bit of pain, try not to drink too much because you will need to urinate more and it may hurt a little.
Goodluck i hope all goes well. Its so exciting that you get to find out the sex so soon xx |
