Anyone else got fibroids??

Hi - I had surgery about 18 months ago to remove some fibroids, the op went very well but I do still have a couple left in there. This makes my pregnancy high-risk. I have managed to get to 25 weeks so things are looking positive, though it's been pretty stressful. I can't help feeling worried and anxious.

Anyone else going through anything similar??

When I had my scan on Tuesday sonographer found a fibroid that she said wouldn't get in the way of me giving birth.
How does having fibroids affect your pregnancy?

Im the same as you Mrs Muffin, a small one was found at my 12 week scan but was told it shouldn't get in the way. My next scan is in 2 weeks I'm praying that all will be well.

I have three fibroids in there at the moment - one is quite large and at the front right hand side of my bump.

They only tend to cause a problem if they are blocking the 'exit' for the baby, or if they get strangulated (twisted).

I am having a c section (although not for that reason), but was told that the fibroids wouldnt prevent a natural birth as long as they weren't across the opening of the cervix.

The only thing we did have a slight issue with - when I was around 27 weeks my uterus measured 29 which they think was due to the biggest fibroid (its nearly as big as babys head - or it was at that point!). Everything has now caught up though and both baby and uterus are the right size.

I have found them bloody painful at times - because of the size and location of the big one, sometimes the baby either lies on it, or kicks it, or wiggles against it - cue much screaming from mum! However - its bearable. And not constant! (Its also not guaranteed they will hurt - only if they are particularly large and in the baby's way).

They dont take any nutrients from the baby, nor affect them in any major way. Just a pain for the mummies!

Hope that helps? If you want to ask any q's just pm me...not at my most coherent at the moment so prob didnt make sense! xx

Thanks for this. As I understand it, fibroids shouldn't cause problems unless they are present in large numbers, are big or are in the wrong place.

I'll be having a c-section too, but that's due to the surgery raher than the remaining fibroids. They're keeping an eye on them, which I''m quite relieved about - scan at 28 weeks and another at 36 weeks.

I believe that at least one of them is growing, but will hopefully go down again after the birth. I had to have surgery last year due to the number and size of the ones that I had, so I have niggling concerns.

I cannot praise the health service enough - they have been fantastic with me. I have been very well looked after.

I get various aches and pains, but don't know which I can put down to the fibroids, and what's down to other things. At the moment I am getting pains underneath my bump, which according to my books may be ligament related.

They found a fibroid at my 20 week scan. At first I was not concerned as my sister had them and had them removed but that was they really did make her suffer. She had quite a bit of pain and I briefly looked at what they were on the web.

So when they said I had a small one I was not bothered as I never knew I had it or had suffered with particulary bad period pains. I was also told it should not cause any problems.

However, recently I had been waking up with a lump on my tummy which went back 'in' I thought it was the babys bum or head poking out (1st pregnancy!) and was not overly concerned until I started getting cramps on Monday and went to the maternity unit on Tuesday when they had a feel she said that it was my fibroid that she could feel and not the baby! It is very tender to touch and about the size of a golf ball. It seems to have got bigger and now I should expect the odd bit of pain now and again. I had a bit of a worry that evening thinking of all possibilities. Still not duly worried as I have gallstones (yes I am v.lucky!!!!) so I am used to being in pain on a weekly basis.

But babymakes3 you have helped in what you have written. The only thing that upsets me is that I really wanted a home birth but its not looking likely. I will perserve until the last moment if not told otherwise but am upset that I will have to venture to the hospital. I don't want an epidural but am scared I will break and scream for it at first contraction. (Fear of needle in back rather than wanting 'natural birth').

Well as with anything its a case of wait and see!!!

Good luck to all and apologies for the essay!

I also have fibroids. My doctor said it shouldn't cause any harm to the baby, but may cause pain for me. I never even knew I had them (2) until I had my scan at 8 weeks pregnant. I've been having pains for the past 2 days which my doctor says is ligament pain. Its so painful, now its only happeneing when I walk or stand for too long. I'm going to try to schedule an appointment to see my doctor cuz I believe my fibroids may have something to do with the pain
