Just been to see OBGYN but stated no feeling and got a "hmmmmm"... help?

Hey All,
Well, I'm 18 weeks today and was all happy to go see the OBGYN for my monthly checkup. She checked the heartbeat and said everything sounded good... then asked if I had felt anything - I said I didnt think so...... and she said hmmm.... so I asked if that was bad? and she replied "not yet.. but if nothing at 21 weeks....."

Now I'm completely freaking out - why havent I felt anything? Have I felt something and just not realised it? I have my 20wk scan in a few weeks and even more worried now....

Does anyone have any guidance/stories they could share?

Thanks

Purple

Your first baby hun? Some dont feel anything right up to 24-26 weeks! Try not to worry. If you dont know what it feels like you may be missing it but before you know it baby will be giving you a good kicking lol! Dont worry.

I'm assuming she hasnt had babies. Idiot woman I'm so sorry she's frightened you like this.

I didnt feel anything until 20w + a few days (just every now and again) and from everything I've been told, and from what most people on here say - that's perfectly normal.

HOW DARE she scare you like that. Grrr.

This is probably too late but DON'T FREAK OUT!

Lots of people don't feel movements until later, particularly if this is your first baby or if you have an anterior placenta. Trust your OBGYN, if she isn't worried then you don't need to be either, and it's fantastic news she was able to pick up the HB for you to hear

I was feeling regular movements every day from around 19 weeks, but midwives had told me that i may not feel anything until 22 weeks, so i think it just depends on your LO.

Hopefully he/she will be giving you a little kick or punch soon!

OMG that was not a professional reponse to you a lot of women don't feel movement until 21 or 22 weeks. I personally did not feel movement until 22 weeks, some women do not feel it until even later too.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!...
So good to hear that I'm pretty normal - yes its my first... and since I'm getting a lot of back ache and numb legs, i'm guessing beanie is leaning towards the back lol...

I'll try and stay calm and not panic too much - thanks again for your support and your stories - really good to hear

*hugs*

I felt the first, faintest flutters around 20-ish weeks and started feeling daily, regular movements in the last few weeks.

As others have said, it's possible that you aren't recognising them or you have an anterior placenta (meaning your placenta is sitting right at the front which kind of cushions movements). For me, the flutters felt like I had gas... kind of like I drank too much milk (I'm lactose intolerant). The difference being, I felt the "gas" but never actually passed any. After a few weeks those gas flutters turned into regular kicks, punches and rolls.

Dont say that!! You are getting me worried too!! I am 17+6 today.

Nah, only joking. Dont think that was right her saying that. There are folk out there who do feel their baby really early - even heard people say as early at 12/13wks but my midwife says prob be around 20 wks.

Like you, I have a scan when I will be just over 20wks so will not be worried til then and if the scan all goes well then will even give it another few weeks and hopefully baby will be kicking away by then.
