Birth Plan

Has anyone started theirs yet?
I've started thinking about this the last couple of days and just feel totally overwhelmed about it all.. where to get information regarding different pain relief types, tearing/cutting, cutting the cord before or after its stopped pulsating..

anyone have any good links to where they've got information about it all?

How are you going about doing yours?

are you planning on going to antenatal classes? they'll be able to provide abit more info or speak to your midwife.
there are websites and i got some bits of info with packs i've picked up along the way.

i haven't written mine yet, but i've been having a think. basically i'm just going for whatevers in the best interests of the little lump.

Speak to your midwife at your next appointment about most of it, you have plenty of time to discuss everything and for you to make desicions. If you want to look up some things on your own do a google search, all sorts of info out there on everything so you can have a good old read and get yourself educated on the pros and cons of everything.

As for a birth plan I wont be doing one other than making it clear I want a homebirth wherever possible. However this is my 2nd and my experience with my 1st made me realise that you can have as full a birth plan as you like but if things dont go 100% to plan it WILL change and you cant do bog all about it, afterall a healthy baby is whats important however you get there. If you want a birth plan then definately go for it, just remember it could be torn up and thrown out the window when you actually get to it!

I think I am going to remain open minded about the birth, I find it hard to envisage what it will be like having never experienced it before. As long as things are explained to me and the LO is healthy I'll be happy.

I am going to wait until after the prenatal classes to really think about mine.
I know absolutely nothing - so I need all the info I can get!! I figure I have time to think about things.
I'm with you jolinar, I am going to write a loose plan - basically my ideal birth, but leave room for things to change, as they inevitably will.

Neither have I done a thing about it. Was also waiting to the antenatal classes to get a better idea. But I'm sure that talking to your midwife should be of assistance.

I'm just worried about leaving it until the official antenatal classes to work on this, as I'll be 34 weeks by then!

I did find that the NHS Choices Pregnancy site kinda has a drop-down birth plan, full of options, that you can read & tick as you go along. I must go back and have a re-think now that I'm much further on. (Damn, just found that their birth plan section now has technical bugs! Will wait a few days & try again.)

Though my plan could all change anyway - at the moment, I want a hospital birth but as natural as possible, timed by my own body - but if Beanie continues to stay small in size, they might want to induce me & possible even give me a CS.

I'm not having one this time because I'm having a c-section. But know that even if you have a birth plan you have to be flexible. You may say now absolutely no drugs! But when your in labor and its been hours and hours you may change your mind. You also may end up needing a c-section, or your birth plan may work out the way you want! Just remember that anything can happen

Ive got a great book called "childbirth doesnt have to hurt" from amazon and it talks about all the different pain relief, natural and drugs - how to prevent tears etc. and all the pros and cons.

After reading it ive decided ill be using a tens machine, aromatherapy, gas and air and possibly pethidine (epidural if im desperate!) And that id like to stand/squat as gravity helps!

Its a really good read xx
