Swine Flu....any commuters going to take Goverment Advice??

Hi,

I was just wondering if there were any other ladies out there who use public transport to commute to work?

I use the trains and tube on a daily basis, and wasn't too worried (I think the media are trying to scare us a bit)

But now a lot of my friends seem to think I should take the advice and avoid travelling in peak hours (not to sure how practical this is though!)

Is anyone else considering doing this to reduce the risks, or are you just going keep travelling as normal??

Thanks

I got the same train this morning which was full to bursting, bit worrying but I figure I work in a uni, if the students don't pass it to me then no doubt various siblings children will when we go visiting.

I figure if I get it, I get it.

maybe instead of taking the quickest route at peak times u could take a slightly longer route that would be more quiet?

I dont use the bus anymore, but spent 1.5 hours in asda yesterday with people caughing and sneezing all over the place (dirty buggers!!) and 20 minutes in the bank today with somebody caughing right behind me. I think if your going to get it your going to get it - Its just unpractical to not go into public places.

I feel the same as the others - not bothered about myself getting it, more bothered about my little man getting poorly (hes 4)

Thanks for the advice ladies....I already take a slightly longer/quieter route anyway as its cheaper, and i'm more likely to get a seat, but it's still worrying, but like you said if I get it, I get it!!

I just found out a good friend (who I was with all day on Saturday) now has it, so i'm a bit more worried than I was, but I guess there's nothing I can do

Bloody media. The government now have themselves so tied up with what they've said and changed their mind about they cant correct the media stories. Its madness.

The swine flu virus not airborne (unlike most flus that none of us really worry about but can get each year) so unless you touch something, dont wash your hands then touch your face/mouth etc, you are unlikely to get it. Take some handwipes/gel with you and wash your hands regularly with those when out and about.

I've just had it, its just like any other flu. You feel like crap for a few days, its horrid, a nasty bout of flu always is, then it goes.

20,000 people die each year from normal flu viruses, and no-one considers not going on public transport then?

I've been stressing about this swine flu thing all weekend as my sister-in-law now has it. But realistically all I can do is eep away from anyone who has it and keep my hands clean. Fortunately I'm not a commuter, but hey what are you supposed to do? Life goes on doesn't it?

BUFFY!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!! You're keeping me sane in all this madness! So glad you're on these boards! I imagine you'll be getting a LOT of questions when others start contracting it so be warned!
